Bedouin Volunteers Prove Their Loyalty to Israel
Inouye Strong
for Israel Aid
ATLANTA (JTA) —
Sen. Daniel K. Inouye (D.,
Hawaii) received a standing
ovation when he told a Bnai
Brith Anti-D ef a m ation
League dinner that he would
recommend to the Senate Ap-
propriations Subcommittee
of which he is chairman that
Israel receive the full $2.2
billion in aid recommended
by the Nixon Administration.
Inouye spoke to some 600
persons at Ahavoth Achim
Synagogue.
Georgia Senator Herman
Talmadge received the local
ADL's Abe Goldstein Human
Relations Award.
Inouye warned against
those who would give in to
Arab oil blackmail, especial-
ly those who also dismissed I
the Munich murders as a
"Jewish problem." "This is
our problem," he insisted,
"it is an American prob-
lem; it is a world problem."
He warned: "It may be oil
today, and tomorrow it may
be tin, copper or bauxite."
Two House committees over-
whelmingly approved on Dec.
4 the $2.2 billion measure.
Tabash of the El-Halaf tribe
told us: "We Bedouin con-
sider ourselves an integral
part of Israel. The Arab ag-
gression was not only direct-
ed against the state of Israel
but also against us. Their
fighter pilots could not dis-
tinguish between you and us
in their bombing. We can
well imagine our fate had the
Arabs won the war; how
they would have treated us,
after our children had served
in the Israeli army and had
guarded Israel's borders. We
know this only too well and,
therefore, we have helped Is-
rael's war effort with all our
modest means. All the Bedou
in were of the opinion that
we had to do this. We under-
stood that the fate of Israel
was our fate, too. We are
very thankful that the Isra-
eli authorities treat us as
equal citizens and care for
our vital needs and well-be-
ing. During the war we were
received very warmly in the
kibutzim and factories and
we felt that we were all a

TEL AVIV—Israeli Bedou-
in proved to be trusted allies
of Israel. They volunteered
for military duties, civilian
jobs, work on kibutzim and
put their trucks and private
cars at the disposal of the
authorities.
Giora Zeid, a member of
the goverment, responsible
for the work of the Bedouin,
said: "I can only praise the
heroism of the Bedouin dur-
ing the war. They established
a united committee which
organized voluntary work.
They collected a large sum
of money for the Voluntary
War Loan. Even older Be-
douin, living on government
social welfare, came forward
and gave money for the loan.
An old, invalid Bedouin gave
IL400 ($100). He said: "Dur-
ing many years I have lived
on money given to me by the
government. Now the govern-
ment needs money and it is
my duty to repay some of
it."
Two Bedouin widow s,
whose husbands had been
killed as soldiers serving in
border patrols, brought hun-
dreds of pounds. Even small
Bedouin children gave money
from their savings.
