Arab Appeal
Sent to WSU

A Wayne State University
department chairman who
received an Arab "appeal
for justice" on University of
Alexandria letterhead sta-
tionery, said he feels the
letter may be one of many
sent to American university
chairmen.
The letter finds it "most
regrettable that the U.S.
government should adopt a
hostile attitude toward what
appears to the rest of the
world as the Arab's lawful
and indisputable right to
struggle for the liberation of
their occupied land."
"The general policy of the
U.S. government and Con-
gress has alway championed
the cause of democracy and
freedom and yet today it is
out to defend and consolidate
Nazism in its Zionist guise,
by supplying Israel with the
most up-to-date arms to be
used against Arab citizens
who have already been driven
from their homes and for over
25 years have been submit-
ted to atrocities no less ap-
palling than those committed
by the Nazis," the letter
charges.
"During our graduate stud-
ies at American universities,"
the closing 'paragraph reads,
"we had a first-hand experi-
ence of true American de-
mocracy. This experience in-
duces us to appeal to all
liberal a n d freedom-loving
Americans to support our
Just Cause of freedom, hu-
man rights and a lasting
peace."

Israel Gas Soars
to $1.02 a Gallon

TEL AVIV — With the
energy crisis spreading its
inconveniences t h r o u g b-
out the world, Israel also be-
came a victim as its gasoline
prices soared to $1.02 per
gallon—up from 80 cents in
October.
The increase was attribu-
ted to the vast amounts of
fuel needed in the Yom Kip-
pur War. However, specula-
tors say Israel is suffering
less than the West.
The state pumps about two-
thirds of its fuel from Egypt-
ian oil fields captured in the
Six-Day War, and the rest is
imported from sources kept
secret by the government.
The crisis was felt more
deeply this month as Israel
Transport Minister Shimon
Peres told drivers they must
take their cars off the roads
one day a week—their choice
— and electricity will be
rationed by massive price in-
creases.
