Akiva School to Honor Tanzmans at Concert

Irving Herschman, chair-
man of the honoree commit-
tee for the sixth annual
Akiva Day School Concert,
announces the selection of
Dave and Lottie Tanzman as
this year's honorees.
The concert, the school's
major fund-raising effort,
will be held Feb. 17 at Ford

intensive Hebrew and secu-
lar education for more than
220 students in kindergarten
through 12th grade.
Akiva's 12th grade is cur-
rently in Israel for a year of
study.
Tanzman is a past presi-
dent of the school, and both
have been active workers for
Akiva.
The Tanzmans have had
careers with the U. S. gov-
ernment. Mrs. Tanzman rose
to the supervisory level at
the U. S. Department of
Labor Bureau of Labor Sta-
tistics in Washington. Her
husband is special assistant

The 74th annual meeting of
the United Jewish Charities
will take place 8:15 p.m.
Tuesday, at the Jewish Cen-
ter, in conjunction with a
meeting of the Jewish Wel-

fare Federation's board of
governors.
Alfred L. Deutsch, UJC
president, will give the
annual report of the organi-
zation. Samuel Schiff, co-
chairman of the JWF-UJC
endowment committee, will
report on that group's activ-
ities.
The business meeting will
also include the election of
new officers. The nominating
committee is headed by
George M. Zeltzer.
The JWF board of gover-
nors meeting will take place
during the course of the eve-
ning. President Mandell L.
Berman will present Federa-
tion's young leadership
awards to Dr. Conrad L.
Giles, Mrs. Burton Mahler
and Robert NI. Rubin.
Rubin, immediate past
president of the junior di-
vision of the Jewish Welfare
Federation. is the recipient
of the JWF William H.
Boesky Young Leadership
Award, Berman announced.
The award, established in
1966, annually honors a junior
division member for outstand-
ing leadership. It encourages
the honoree's attendance the
Young Leadership Conference

Menora Singles will hold
its last singles dance and
party of the year 8:30 p.m.
Sunday at Alvaro's Res-
taurant.
This dance is open to

is a past vice president of
Akiva PTA.
Tanzman, a lifetime mem-

tions Association and past
president of its Detroit chap-

Resolutions. He is a member

of the Jewish Community
