Women in Wayne and Ma- comb Counties will march against birth defects Jan. 24- 30, announced Florine Mark and Martha Jean (the Queen) Steinberg, chairmen of the annual Mother s' March. Some 250,000 infants are born with mental or physical damage every year in our nation. Mrs. Mark said men and women volunteers are needed to spread the call for more marchers, handle telephone inquiries and most important to march on their block to raise funds in the fight against birth defects. Contributions to the March of Dimes help support pre- natal care programs for "high risk" mothers, rubella immunization drives, genetic counseling, public health edu- cation on such subjects as the Rh vaccine, which can prevent the ravages of Rh blood incompatibility disease, and many other medical service programs such as the FOR THE NEW MAN IN YOUR LIFE! Those of my readers who are fortunate enough to be living in southern climes don't have to go through the rough winters experienced by us northerners, but for most of the nation the coming months mean rain, snow, sleet and generally obnoxious weather. On those cold and chilly nights, what better to come home to than a hearty and satisfying home-cooked meal. If anything, the winter season is associated with nourishing, steaming stew dishes, and here is one of my favorites. 2 lbs. chuck meat cut in pieces 5 small carrots, sliced 2 small onions, diced 1 lb. can stewed tomatoes garlic powder to tatste noodles (12 ounces) Brown meat and anion in dutch oven. Add carrots, tomatoes, gar- lic r7owder. Bake at 350 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. Cook noodles ac- cording to package directions. Mix meat and noodles. Serve im- mediately. Serves 5. There are no people who are quite so vulgar as the over-refined ones. — Mark Twain. 29760 SOUTHFIELD RD. Sickle Cell Detection Center at Kirwood Hospital," ex- plained Mrs. Steinoerg.
