TIME MAY MARCH ON,
but not everything goes with
it . • . Jerry and Sylvia Op-

Barron (the girls were form-
erly the Eager sisters of Cen-
tral High) . . . were here
from Los Angeles visiting
Bernie and Lynne Becker of
Southfield among other fam-
ily members . . . The girls
wanted to visit their old cot-
tage up at Higgins Lake
which was built 50 years ago
. . . They not only found the
cottage in exactly the same
condition as when they left
it after 30 years . . . but also
the same furniture as it had
during their childhood!

we could mention
her birthday

This is her 33rd year with our

manager she lends experience
and personal interest to every

your next special affair.

LOU HANDLER, president
of SOCK (Save Our Commu-
nity Through Kindness), and
local fight referee, still has
a good punch on the story
circuit . . . like the one about
the fighter who wasn't doing
so well and looked pretty sick
of the whole affair . . . "Stop
those punches!" shouted his
manager from his corner .. .
The fighter managed to open
his swollen lips enough to
reply, "You don't see any of
'em getting past me, do
you?"

WORD IS THAT A noted
local charitable group is on
the verge of disbanding be-
cause of much dissention
within its ranks . . . Com-
plete reorganization would
undoubtedly serve a much
greater purpose rather than
have the cause suffer through
lack of proper coordination.
PAUL PERRY TELLS this
true tale of last week . . .
about a good friend at home
reading a paper when his
wife, an inveterate bargain
hunter, arrived home with a
big package under her arm
. . . "Darling," she exulted,
"I picked up this gorgeous
bridal gown at a clearance
sale for only $12.50!" . . .
"What on earth use have you
for a bridal' gown?" the hub-
by groaned. "Don't you know
we've been married already
44 years?" . . . "Of course I
know," snapped the wife, un-
deflated. "But for $12.50 it
can hang in the closet!"
GENT PUT A COIN into
one of those weighing ma-
chines that tell your fortune
as a bonus . . . and proudly
read the card aloud to his
wife . . . It said, "You are
brilliant, witty and irresist-
ible to the opposite sex! . . .
His wife nodded grimly and
snapped, "It's got your
weight wrong, too!"
IT'S THE FINAL STRETCH
for plans of the annual Glam-
orama luncheon by City of
Hope Cancer Fighters noon
Dec. 5, at Raleigh House .. .
Over 600 gals are again ex-
pected to witness the latest
in fashions exhibited by some
of our locale's top models
. . . Goldie Young is ov'r-all
chairman of the shindig.
which is one of the Cancer
Fighters' major fund raising
events . . . and a good one,
too.
FROM PHOENIX, where
he now lives, Bill Adler
writes of these queries re-
ceived by the local rabbi
from youthful members of
his congregation . . . 1. Did

Giving Cheerfully
If a man gives to his fel-
low all the good gifts of the
world with a dour counte-
nance, the Scripture regards
it as if he had given noth-
ing; but if he receives his
fellow cheerfully, the Scrip-
ture regards it as if he had
given him all the good gifts
in the world. —Midrash Abot

you always want to be a rab-
bi, or did you want to be a
third baseman like I do? .
2. Is it permissible to wear a
miniskirt to Yom Kippur ser-
vices? . . . 3. Please an-
nounce at my Bar Mitzva
services that I would rather
not have money as a gift.
P.S. My mother made me
write this letter.
HEIDI PRESS is not the
name of a publication firm or
a news agency . . . she works
in the editorial department of
The Jewish News.
TWO OLD FRIENDS WHO
HADN'T seen each other in
years, had an unplanned re-
union . . . in the steam room
at Darby's Stanley Steamer
in Oak Park . . . Asked how
one's beautiful wife was, the
other replied with a sigh,
"Not so beautiful anymore,
and furthermore, I wish she'd
stop nagging me all the
time." . . . "Is it money that
bothers her?" asked the first
gent while throwing a bucket
of water over his head . . .
"No," was the answer, "it's
my health. The minute it
gets cold outside, she's pes-
tering me to put on long un-
derwear. She's at me morn-
ing, noon and night. So just
to shut her up, I put on the
long underwear today. And
you know what? It's the first
time I've been warm in 15
years!"
