culated that the Arabs would
go to war, witness Israel's
heavy losses in the first
three days. At the same
time, Israel saw more vic-
tories in three days than in
any other war. He called it
the largest and most diffi-
cult war in Israel's short
history.
Peres insisted that the
cabinet, without exception,
did not expect an attack nor
want to launch a pre-emptive
attack.
Israel will go open-minded
to the peace talks, he said,
but it will be "extremely
tough" in the bargaining.
"We do not want to be
heroes. Maybe we should
have reached an understand-

were wrong in thinking they
felt that (same) way."
Earlier, he said that "So-
viet restraint" will be a
major factor in peace negoti-

THANK YOU

In recent weeks, when so many nations,
representing a substantial part of the
world's population — directly and in-
directly "ganged up" on tiny Israel, the
Netherlands, another small country,
faced up to Arab threats and pressures.
I respectfully urge everyone (especially
company executives) to address a brief
letter of praise to:

Peres contended that the

Peres said the timing of

Czechoslovakia,
N. Korea Give
a Hand to Arabs

LONDON —Czechoslovakia
may not have been directly
involved in fighting during
the Yom Kippur War, but
many Czech workers and ex-
perts were at work in Syria
and Egypt, the International
Council of Jews from Czecho-
slovakia charges.
The council said Czech in-
volvement was disclosed in
Prague broadcasts. The
Czech news agency reported
that the diplomatic missions
of Arab countries in Prague
had expressed their "deep
thanks to Czechoslovakia for
the expression of solidarity
and political support."
Increasing trade ties be-
tween Czechoslovakia and
the Arab countries was re-
ported, with representatives
of the Arab countries visiting
the industrialized East Euro-
pean country. A source re-
ported that Czechoslovakia
has played a leading part in
the buildup of the war econ_
omy in Arab lands. The
Czech media was strongly
anti-Israel up to and includ-
ing the war.

Yet another of Israel's an-
tagonists, North Korea, has
between 70 and 80 of its air
force pilots and from 20 to
70 commando training of-
the
with
ficers serving
Egyptian armed forces.
These figures, reported by
Asian diplomatic sources in
Cairo, are higher than those
most recently disclosed by
the U.S. Defense Depart-
ment.
The North Korean pilots
are working within Egypt's
air defensive system, as op-
posed to operations likely to
bring them into offensive
combat with the Israelis. It
is believed the North Ko-
reans see this as an oppor-
tunity to become acquainted
with the latest American
weaponry and systems now
in the hands of Israelis.
