HILLEL
HAPPENINGS

By JUDY FRANK

Ask any student at Hillel
Day School what is occupy-
ing his mind and heart. The
answer is, of course, Israel.
For the last few weeks our
school concerned itself al-
most exclusively with the
war in Israel.
We prayed for a speedy
victory with special prayers
at our daily minyan. Our
headmaster, Rabbi Rozwa-
ski, kept us informed of
events and called assemblies
to discuss what we can do as
American Jews to help our
brothers in Israel.
Blue and White Day was
held Oct. 10. On that day,
every student came dressed
in blue and white to repre-
sent our concern for Israel.
Those few who did not wear
the prescribed colors were
fined 25 cents which was
donated to our Israel Fund.
The student council, under
the leadership of Donna Katz-
man and Vicki Rubin, presi-
dent and vice president, re-
spectively, initiated a project
to collect money for Israel.
The response from the stu-
dents w a s overwhelming.
More than $2,000 was col-
lected within the week. The
student council is now en-
gaged in having every stu-
dent in our school send an
aerogram to Israel so that
Prime Minister Golda Meir,
Abba Eban, Moshe Dayan
and the Israeli soldiers on
the front lines will know of
our personal feelings and
prayers for a return of peace
to the land of Israel.

Nov. 9 is the deadline for
the Jewish Center's Teme
Skully Essay Contest. This
year's contest topic is "The
Middle East Situation."
Young adults age 16-23 are
eligible, and their work will
be judged according to one
of the three age categories.
Winners will receive cash
awards.

pleased to be representative of the wide range of
provided to Leonard Baruch for City Treasurer. In

this particular period of time we need
citizens, such as Leonard Baruch, who
step forward and offer our city the

Leonard Baruch has introduced in
this campaign will indeed save South-
