Book 'Israel' Shows
Forging of Israel

Marking the 25th anniver-

Arabs Are Victims
of 'Own Mendacity'

Editor, The Jewish News,
The Arabs are a great peo-
ple who made tremendous
contributions to civilization.
If permitted to enjoy peace
and freedom, they would
continue to do so. But they
have become victims of their
own mendacity and exploit-
ers who use the famous Arab
Algazali's philosophy "the
enemy of mine enemy is my
friend", and other meretri-
cious contentions.
Therefore, once again Is-
rael and Jews have become
the convenient enemy-scape-
goat of Arab exploiters. The
Arab's physical resources are
exploited by competing oil
companies; their spiritual-
resources and their beliefs in
their holy Koran by mission-
aries to convert Arabs to re-
ligions other than their own;
domination of the Mideast by
Russia and China etc.
The 18 Arab states cover
5,000,000 square miles, but
refuse to share any of their
oil-wealth or vast vacant
areas with their own "Pales-

tinian" brethren. Regardless
how they became "refugees,"
they are human beings enti-
tled to justice and freedom
from exploitation by the real
culprits, of which little Israel
is not guilty!
The area from Morocco on

sian Gulf, 5,000,000 square

4,000,000 or U. S. 3,000,000

areas are going to waste for
lack of people to cultivate

dy wastes could absorb the

`Internationalization'
Schemes Excoriated

Editor, The Jewish News:
Senator J. W. Fulbright
and others again propose Ern_
peror Hadrian's solution for
Jerusalem, that it be "inter-
nationalization." In 135 CE
after suppressing the Jewish
Bar Kokhba revolt, this Ro-
man Emperior destroyed and
rebuilt it as Aelia Capitolina
dedicated to Jupiter. This was
"internationalization" then.
No more Judaea, as it was
called till then. The Philis-
tines were put above the
Jews in naming the country
which was attached to Syria,
as Syria Palestina. Jews
were forbidden to set foot in
what was no longer Jerusa-
lem. The Jewish spiritual
presence was restored by
Christianity, under the Ro-
man Emperor Constantine.
It was only with the adoption
of the League of Nations
Palestine Mandate on July
24, 1922 that a separate po-
litical entity, called "Pales-
tine" entered into history for
the first time. But in 1947,
Arab representatives still op-
posed such an entity, insist-
ing that "Palestine was a
part of Syria."
Jerusaelm is holy to Chris-
tians as the place of the
ministry of Jesus "to the lost
sheep of the House of Israel"
(Matthew 10:6). It is holy
to Muslims, El-Kuds (in
Arabic, kuds, in Hebrew,
kodesh, means "holy,") be-
cause Muhammad once
prayed in the direction of the
Jewish Temple. Now Mecca
and Medina, from which non-
Muslims are excluded, are
Islam's centers of worship.
Only Jews throughout the
centuries have prayed daily
for the rebuilding of Jerusa-
lem. Only Jews, not Chris-
tians nor Muslims, for all
their feelings of reverence,
have an emotional and re-
ligious attachment to the land
itself, the promised land.
Yours sincerely,

Reader Commends
Bond With Israel

Editor, The Jewish News:
For the first time in his-
tory, in over 4,000 years, the
hard pressed people of Israel
have a military ally. And
what an ally! I mean the
United States of America,
the greatest military power
on earth.
A combination of Israeli
democracy, military prowess
and a strong American Jew-
ish community, as opposed
to Soviet totalitarianism and
their total commitment to
Russian expansionism, has
welded this great new alli-
ance into, in my opinion,' an
unbreakable bond.
As NATO, due to European
opportunism during the cur-
rent oil crisis, diminishes in
effectiveness, the importance
of the American-Israeli alli-
ance will be more apparent
to the world.
American Jewry would be
wise to insist upon a strong
military posture in the
U. S. A. because, as the
Pentagon goes — so goes
Israel.

RIO DE JANEIRO (JTA)
— A group of Arab immi-
grants in Cuiaba, the capital
of the state of Mato Grosso,
assaulted a local Jewish mer-
chant who has been selling
the Portuguese edition of Is-
raeli Defense Minister Moshe
Dayan's book "The Six-Day
War."
The assailants, after beat-
ing the merchant, grabbed
copies of the book, took them
to the main square in the
town and burned them. The
police intervened, but after
the books were destroyed.
In another incident, six
Jewish schools in Rio de
Janeiro and some other Jew-
ish institutions were threat.
ened by terrorist attacks.
In Porto Alegre, the capital
of Brazil's southern state of
Rio Grande do Sul, where
there is a large Jewish popu-
lation, the local Circulo
Social Israelita had to cancel
a musical show after receiv-
ing anonymous phone calls

that the building would be
bombed.
Meanwhile, West Berlin
police discovered nearly five
kilograms of high explosives
in an apartment belonging to
four Palestinians in the city.
The men are being held in
custody. They entered West
Berlin after traveling from
Beirut.
One of the four said he had
been given a suitcase con-
taining the explosives by an
unidentified man in Beirut.

ISRAEL'S SURVIVAL
As everyone treads on dust,
so does every nation tread on
Israel. But as dust lasts
longer than metal, so shall
Israel outlast all nations.

Calls Attack on Nixon
Negation of Principle

Editor, The Jewish News:
My family and I were
greatly distressed to hear at-
tacks upon the jokes at the
expense of President Nixon.
There is a basic principle in
Jewish law that even an evil
person, when he is down and
distressed, must not be
stepped upon and ridiculed.
We read in Psalms: "Binfal
oiveikh al tismakh," "when
your enemy falls, do not re-
oice." I apply this to our
President, just as I would
even apply it to fallen enem-
ies of Israel in the Middle
East war.

Editor, The Jewish News,
It gives me great pleasure
to thank publicly Rabbi
Moshe Lowy for coming to
our Federation Apartments
to sound the shofar on Rosh
Hashana. Many residents in
our apartments would other-
wise have been deprived of
the mitzva of hearing the
shofar on the Holy Day.
Rabbi Lowy himself per-
formed a mitzva for which
public acknowledgment,
The narrower the mind,
though late, is in order.
At the same time, I wish the broader the statement.
