The burials conform to Interna- tional Red Cross rules and to Israel army procedures regarding identifying bodies and burying them. The burial squads are made up of army rabbinate mem- bers who place markers over the graves. The officer in command, Major Mike, said that burial of enemy dead in itself raised the moral stand- ards of Israel's army. Animals Take Shelter JERUSALEM (JTA) — In- mates of the Jerusalem Bib- lical Zoo, which suffered heavy losses during the Six- Day War shelling, are taking this war in their stride, says zoo director Aharon Shulov. All cages now have built- in air raid shelters and the animals — particularly the more intelligent ones like chimpanzees — take to them whenever there is the sound of a siren or even when an Israeli jet zooms overhead. Even at the sound of build- ing blasts nearby, the chimps and orangutans dive into their shelters and cover their heads with their hands. 1009000.00 — IY 'Between You ... and Me' Editor-in-Chief Emeritus, JTA (Copyright 1973, JTA Inc.) CHRISTIAN MOODS: Christian response to the Yom Kippur War has been forthcoming from leaders of various church groups including Catholic, Evangelic, Methodist, Baptist and Lutheran. A. Catholic Leadership Conference of religious women cabled an appeal to Pope Paul VI to condemn Egypt's and Syria's "criminal act of war" and to come out with a statement acknowledging Israel's right to exist securely within the family of nations. The National Council of Churches—which is composed of 30 Protestant and Eastern Orthodox denominations — is vague. But some Catholic bishops have issued statements supporting Israel. A group of 14 clergymen in Des Moines, said in a joint statement that in this critical hour for Israel silence on the part of Christians would be a "moral sin." The group included the Roman Catholic bishop, a minister of the United Church of Christ and the president of the Iowa Synod of the Lutheran Church of America. One Episcopal priest said: "Christians betrayed Jews in both America and Israel at the time of the Six Day War in 1967 by failing to offer them full and unequivocal support in that moment of crisis. This failure must not be repeated by Christians now." With all this, the American Jewish Committee—which is monitoring radio talk shows, newspaper editorials'and other media—indicated that its findings are not always reassuring. In Chicago there appears to be a concerted effort to have talk shows monopolized by pro-Arab housewives. There is also a strong pitch by Arab students on campuses. On talk shows in New York, the AJCommittee noted "a substantial amount of anti-Semitism, both traditional and the Black variety." Jewish leaders make no secret of the fact that they are especially shocked — and outraged — by a radio interview given by Senator Fulbriaht. The Senator alleged that Israelis are "very rich, very strong and very political astute", and he added that about 80 members of the Senate favor Israel in each test because they had been "persuaded that it is in their interest". His remarks are considered a camouflaged shit. to American Jewry.
