Youth Center
News
The Youth Center has re-
opened for the new year with
the following hours: 1-10 p.m.
Sunday; 7-11 p.m. Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday;
and 1 p.m. midnight Satur-
day. The center is closed
Monday and Friday.
The youth center is seeking
a director to take c ha r g e
of programing, maintenance
and supervision of the center.
The hours vary each week
depending on the program-
ing. A committee staff and
budget are prOvided. The
part-time position is particu-
larly appropriate for a gradu-
ate student interested in
communal service.

Father and Son to Entertain,
Rabbi to Speak at Bonds Dinner
Dale and Cary Lind will be
guest stars at the 25th anni-
versary of Israel's statehood
honoring Dr. Saul S. Gorne,
Flint Jewish communal
leader, 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at
Temple Beth El.
Trained as a cantor by his
composer father, Cantor
Joshua Lind, Dale was al-
ready a recording artist at
age 9. Later he studied grand
opera, performing as a solo-
ist on the concert stage.
Shortly before World War
II, Dale and his two brothers,
Murray and Phil, formed the
Lind Brothers Trio, appear-
ing with Danny Kaye, Danny
Thomas and many other
stars. Since the birth of
Israel, the Lind brothers
raised millions in behalf of
Israel.
Cary Lind began his stage
career at age 7 by enter-
taining with his father, Dale.
He has performed nearly

In September 1968 he went
to Pittsburgh as rabbi of
Temple Emanuel of South
Hills. He received an hon-
orary DD degree from
Hebrew Union College in
June 1970.

Shalom's Men's Club and
later was elected president
of the congregation. He is
the founder and honorary
president of Tikvah Lodge of
Bnai Brith. He serves as
Probate Court judge of
Wayne County.

Congressman Robert Huber
of Michigan's 18th District
recently told the Young
Americans for Freedom hold-
ing a press conference in
Washington that passage of
the J a c k s o n/Mills-Vanik
Amendment was "impera-
tive."
Speaking in defense of the
amendment, Rep. Huber
added that he proposed an
amendment which would
award honorary U. S. citizen-
ship to Alexander Solzhenit-
syn and Andrey Sakharov.
He said the amendments
"aim at the preservation of
man's most fundamental
right, the right to use his
free will. And I shall always
do whatever I can to see
that this right is not denied
and that the cause of indi-
vidual liberty is advanced:"

DALE AND CARY LIND
Leonard Teicher, candidate
for mayor of Southfield in
next month's election, has is-
sued a statement of goals, in
which he lists the priorities
as zoning and traffic, senior
citizen housing, crime, area
recreation and fire protec-
tion. A member of the South-
field Board of Education,
Teicher stressed that he feels
the mayor must be independ-
ent of any group and at the
same time maintain an open
door to all individuals in the
community.

TER, disc jockey at WJR,

Hebrew Magazine Has Its Tar Mitzva'
NEW YORK — A Bar
Mitzva year celebration of
Olam Hadash, the only He-
brew language publication
issued in the United. States
for students and other teen-
age youth, was launched with
the current issue of the
magazine, of which Asher
Wolk is the founder and
editor.
Featured in the first issue
of the anniversary year is an
article on Israel Benjamin
Harris, one of the earliest
Americans to settle perma-
nently in Palestine 112 years
ago.
The issue also includes a
Hebrew translation of Irving
Berlin's "God Bless Amer-
ica," an article by the
paper's Bombay correspon-
dent on how this Jewish
community in India cele-
brated Israel's 25th anni-
versary, and an article on
the ninth Maccabiah by Dr.
Uriel Ofek.
