Israel Not Alone: Fellow Jews Respond

mobile until Oct. 20. "I hope
the war will end victoriously
for Israel by then," Glass-
man said.
Nationwide Response
to Appeals Reported
NEW YORK (JTA) — An
unprecedented response was
reported as Jews throughout
the nation continued to rally
in support of Israel at gath-
erings in hundreds of com-
munities and contributed mil-
lions of dollars.
Sam. Rothberg, general
chairman of Israel Bonds,
said the Bond organization
should have $100,000,000 in
cash and signed pledges.
At UJA national headquar-
ters donations were reported
streaming in at a greater rate
than expected. A UJA
spokesman said the response
was unprecedented.
Hadassah reported doctors
and nurses calling in to vol-
unteer their services. Israel
has as yet not asked for vol-
unteers.

Zaire Cuts Ties
With Israel

UNITED NATIONS (JTA)
— Joseph Mobutu, President
of Zaire, told the UN General
Assembly last week that his
country had broken diplo-
matic relations with Israel.
Zaire became the eighth
African country to break re-
lations with Israel in the past
20 months.

Arabs Integrating
Into Israeli Life

JERUSALEM (ZINS)—The
adviser to the Israel govern-
ment on Arab affairs, Shmuel
Toledano, said the Arab pop-
ulation in Israel is rapidly
being integrated into the life
of the land, due to an unpre-
cedented economic boom.
This is most readily seen
in the rapid integration of the
younger Arab generation,
Toledano said.
It is anticipated, according
to Toledano, that in the next
10-15 years, the natural
birthrate of the Arabs and
Jews will equalize.
At the same time, accord-
ing to informed sources,
30,000 Arabs, previously resi-
dent in the liberated areas,
have permanently left for
new homes in Europe and in
Latin America. Most of the
emigres did not liquidate
their holdings and return
from time to time to visit
their former places of resi-
dence.
The Israel government has
rejected a number of appli-
cations on the part of those
who were disappointed with
their resettlement elsewhere
and wanted to come back.
The abandoned, property of
those Arabs who have per-
manently left is managed by
a government custodian.

Israel Water Chief
Fears Supply Decline

TEL AVIV (ZINS)—Israel's
total available water re-
sources continue to decline
dangerously, t h e govern-
ment's chief water expert,
Menachem Kantor said. Kan-
tor explained that the na-
tion's wells and other under-
ground sources are being
threatened by increasing sal-
ination, despite the fact that
there has been no shortage of
rainfall.
In Tel Aviv, the danger
point had already been
reached.

JEWISH NATIONAL
FUND

calls upon

MICHIGAN JEWRY

to intensify support for
Israel in
this emergency

DECLARATION OF SOLIDARITY WITH ISRAEL

The Jewish National Fund in an expression of solidarity with the people of
Israel in the face of the new outbreak of Arab hostilities, is issuing a
call to all friends, supporters and volunteer workers throughout the
state, to intensify immediately their efforts on behalf of the belea-
guered Jewish State.
And it recalls the major role played by the Keren Keyemeth in Israel in
building strategic security roads, including those leading to the Gola.k
Heights and Mt. Hermon, which were attacked by the Syrian forces
on the Day of Atonement.

Dozens of settlements along Israel's northern and southern frontiers re-
claimed and developed by the Keren Kayemeth, are bearing the brunt
of treacherous Arab aggression and are being heroically defended by
their inhabitants.
We are very much involved.
JNF also emphasizes that were it not for the network of security roads and
border outposts, the task of Israel's defenders would have been rend-.
ered much more difficult.

We express, on behalf of the Jewish National Fund, our confidence that
American Jewry would respond mightily to the critical challenge facing
Israel by stepping up its support and striving generously so that israel
might emerge stronger and more secure—and the victor.

It is important for us, at this moment, to be aware of the fact that every
cent now coming in to JNF, be it for trees, land reclamation, road
construction in the border areas, is dedicated and designated to Israel's
emergency.

OUR ANSWER TO THE BRUTAL AND UNPROVOKED ATTACK MUST
BE MORE ISRAELI STRONGHOLDS AND SETTLEMENT, MORE
SECURITY ROADS, AND AN ECONOMICALLY VIABLE ISRAEL
THAT WILL BE ABLE TO ABSORB THOUSANDS AND THOUS-
ANDS OF MORE JEWS FROM ALL CORNERS OF THE GLOBE.
