Mrs. Broder to Receive Butzel Award at Annual Federation Meeting Oct. 16 Celia Meyers Broder, founder and organizer of many of Detroit's social and philanthropic services, will receive the Fred M. Butzel Memorial Award at the an- nual dinner of the Jewish Welfare Federation, Tues- day at Cong. Shaarey Zedek, Federation president Mandell L. Berman announced. The award, given each year since 1951, is the highest honor conferred by Detroit's organized Jewish community. It is presented in memory of the late Fred M. Butzel, a Federation founder and for many years Detroit's leading philan- thropist. Mrs. Broder was one of the founders of the Women's Committee and Central Vol- unteer Bureau of United Community Services, the budgeting and allocations agency for the United Foun- dation of Detroit," Berman added. In 1952 Mrs. Broder or- ganized and was the found- ing president of Sinai Hos- pital Women's Guild and was made an honorary hospital trustee. She has also been a leader in Women's Zionist ranks for many years. Mrs. Broder is currently active in the National Coun- cil of Jewish Women and the sisterhood of Shaarey Zedek.
