Where words abound, sin will
not be wanting;
But he who holds his tongue
acts wisely.
The tongue of the righteous
is choice silver;
The mind of the wicked is
of little worth.
To a fool it is like sport to
do wrong;
But it is hateful to a man
of sense.
What the wicked man dreads
will befall him;
But the desire of the right-
eous will be granted.
As the whirlwind passes, so
the wicked man vanishes;
But the righteous one is root-
ed forever.
As vinegar to the teeth, and
as smoke to the eyes,
So is the sluggard to those
who send him on an errand.
False scales are an abomina-
tion to the LORD;
But a just weight is his de-
light.
When pride comes, scorn
comes;
But with the modest is wis-
dom.
When righteous men prosper,
the city exults;
And when wicked men per-
ish, there is jubilation.
The senseless man pours con-
tempt on his neighbor;
But the intelligent man keeps
silent.

Why can't American Jews
learn a little Hebrew? To be
sure, learning Hebrew is not
supposed to be easy.
There is the story of
Eddie Cantor years back of
the Jew who sent his child
to heder to learn Hebrew.
Six months later, he found
all the time the kid was
being taught the kadish.
"Why do you spend all the
time teaching him kadish?"
the parent asked the mela-
med. "I am not getting ready
to die." "You should live so
long until he learns it," said
the melamed.
But learning Hebrew is
not as difficult as all that.
A few months back, Edmund
Wilson, one of the top intel-
lectual writers of this
country, died. He was not a
Jew. He took up the study of
Hebrew late in life in order
to help study the Dead Sea
Scrolls.
Edmund Wilson had a
strong motivation. He was
eager to study the scrolls, so
he learned. When you really
want to learn something,
study changes from hardship
to pleasure. That is the prin-
cipal thing needed in learn-
ing a language or anything.
When we have passion, we
shall learn. One doesn't
need genius or a high IQ.
One needs a high PQ (pas-
sion quotient).
In Israel, there is also a
simple method ' of learning
Hebrew. Get around. Don't
be a recluse. Meet people.
Ask them their names. You
meet the prime minister.
Ask her her name. She will
tell you it's Meir.
Look in your little diction-
ary and you will see Meir
means shine. Meet Allon. His
name means oak tree. Meet
Dayan and you have the
word fcr judge.
What could be simpler?
Vast UNICEF Aid
A large part of UNICEF
aid is given in the form of
equipment a n d supplies.
UNICEF has helped to equip
over 14,500 educational and
vocational training institu-
tions; some 10,000 welfare
institutions; 45,000 health
centers; and over 8,000 nu-
trition institutions. UNICEF
provides such supplies as
paper for textbooks, audio-
visual teaching aids, agricul-
tural tools, medicines and
hospital equipment.
They that will not be coun-
selled cannot be helped. —
Benjamin Franklin.
