In "Watergate: A Moral Inquiry," a booklet publish- ed by the commission of social action of the Union of American Hebrew Congrega- tions and the Central Con- ference of American Rabbis, Albert Vorspan, director of the commission, asks "10 questions about Watergate and us" which explore the moral and ethical problems raised by the Watergate revelations and suggests an- swers from Jewish religious sources. The result, according to Harry K. Gutmann of Scars- dale, chairman of the board of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, who announced the booklet, "strikes home." Watergate, he said, "should have made it clear that there is no separation between private and public morals; that the betrayal in the one sphere leads to the violations in the others." the American people." It shows that "there is clearly a disintegration of moral values and ethical traditions at all levels." But the court suspended six years of the sentence it pronounced on Sheikh Ibra- him Mouhammed A u d a, leader of one of the Bedouin tribes recently evacuated from the Pitah Raffah area. Sheikh Ibrahim was ac- cused of concealing 80,000 rounds of ammunition in a waterproof bunker on his lands. The charges against Sheikh Ibrahim were filed some time ago, but his trial_was delayed pending the outcome of an appeal by the sheikh and other Bedouin chiefs to the Israeli Supreme Court against the seizure of their land by the military. Jerome M. Becker, coordi- nating council president, also reported that, in some in- stances, those prices have dropped slightly from their record high levels. Prices of kosher meat rose from 20 to 30 per cent above pre-freeze prices during the freeze, which was lifted Sept. 10. Butchers throughout the New York area said there was a plentiful supply° of kosher meat for the High Holy Days but said they did not expect any sharp decline in prices from current high levels.
