Dealing with international affairs, the book also deals with ORT from its begin- nings in St. Petersburg in 1880. Other chapters of the book cover the World War I period in Russia and Scandi- navia. Grossman, 89, spent many years in Scandinavia before eventually settling in Canada to help organize as- sistance for Jewish newcom- ers during and after World War II. Grossman's book is avail- able through ORT Geneva. The Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater Detroit (Vaad Harabonim) has set Sunday, Tzom Gedaliah, as the day on which the annual "Kinus Litshuva" the as- sembly of repentance, will take place 6 p.m. at Yeshi- vath Beth Yehudah. The Vaad established this tradition to bring emphasis to the solemn "aseret yemay Teshuva" — 10 days of re- pentance — the period be- tween Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Tzom Gedaliah is a fast day. This year, special tribute will be paid to the memory of the great rabbi and scholar Hagoan Rabbi Jo- seph Henkin, who died re- cently.
