Rovner Lachowitcher Increase
Gift to Allied Campaign

As preparations for the
nationwide celebration of the
Histadrut's golden jubilee
campaign proceed, local ac-
tivities will begin with the
annual Histadrut conference
10:•30 a.m. Sept. 30 at the
Labor Zionist Institute.
Kerem, consul for
culture and information in
Chicago, will speak on His-
tadrut's service to the state
of Israel and review Histad-
rut's accomplishments dur-
ing 53 years, from a handful
of youthful pioneers to a com-
prehensive labor federation
of 1,200,000 workers.
Officers will be elected,
and campaign volunteers will
be issued their assignments.
Campaign chairman Morris
Lieberman will report on the
goals and activities of the
forthcoming campaign. There
will be no admission charge.
Friends are invited.
Histadrut's national golden
(jubilee convention will be
held Nov. 2-4 at the New
York Hilton Hotel. The local
campaign committee is form-
ing a delegation to represent
Detroit.

The Allied Jewish Campaign-Israel Emergency Fund
grew last week by $2,500 as the result of a treasury gift
from the Rovner Lachowitcher Aid Society. Receiving the
gift was the AJC-IEF metropolitan division treasury gifts
section chairman, Morris Friedman, who said, "We are
most pleased that the Rovner Lachowitcher Aid Society
continues in the zealous support of the state of Israel with
this gift. This contribution to the 1973 campaign is an in-
crease of 25 per cent over last year's treasury gift in honor
of Israel's 25th anniversary." Shown at the presentation
ceremony, which took place at a meeting of the landsman-
shaft, and, from left, seated: treasurer Nathan Wiss,
trustee Alex Begun, Friedman, president Jacob Gubow, and
vice-president Abe Young; standing: corresponding secre-
tary Joseph H. Siegel, financial secretary Mrs. Abe Sag-
inaw, trustee Abe Applebaum and recording secretary Sam
Manis.

5 'Operation Israel' Missions

The 50th anniversary year
of the National Committee
for Labor Israel will be
launched at the golden jubi-
lee convention of the pro-
Histadrut organization, at the
New York Hilton, Nov. 2-4.
Four prominent Israelis
who will address major ses-
sions are Ambassador Simha
Dinitz, Yitzhak Ben Aharon,
secretary-general of Histad-
rut, Yehoshua Levy, Histad-
rut treasurer, and Ambassa-
dor David Rivlin, Israel con-
sul-general in New York.
The National Committee
for Labor Israel, originally
known as the Gewerkschaf-
ten Campaign for the Or-
ganized Jewish Workers in
Palestine, was formed in 1923
by Jewish trade unionists on
the Lower East Side of New
York in response to an ap-
peal by David Ben-Gurion,
then head of the fledging
Histadrut, which has become
the central labor federation
of modern Israel, with more
than 1,200,000 member s,
Jews and Arabs.
During the past half cen-
tury, the National Commit-
tee for Labor Israel has
raised nearly $100,000,000 in
the Western Hemisphere, on
behalf of Histadrut institu-
tions and services in Israel.

Several missions to Israel
for people involved in De-
troit's Allied Jewish Cam-
paign-Israel E mergency
Fund have again been ar-
ranged by the United Jewish
Apeal, William M. Davidson
and Lewis S. Grossman, gen-
eral chairmen of the 1974
AJC-IEF, announced.
These "Operation Israel"
tours will include special
visits to areas of Israel and
installations not normally
open to the general tourist
and have been scheduled for
campaign workers from
November through February.
Travelers on "Operation Is-
rael" will meet with top of-
ficials of Israel's govern-
ment, the military, and the
Jewish Agency, and receive
"on the scene" briefings con-
cerning Israel's current sit-
uation.
There will be five missions
for couples, one for men, and
two for women.
The missions from which
Detroiters may choose are:
Couples, departing New York
on Nov. 11, and returning
Nov. 21; couples, Nov. 25-
Dec. 5; men, Dec. 9-16; cou-
ples, Jan. 6-16; women, Jan.
20-30; couples, Feb. 3-13; and
couples, Feb. 17-27.

For generations, families have been
relying on Planters Oil for all their
Kosher cooking. All the year through.
Because Planters 100% pure peanut
oil brings out the natural flavor of
foods cooked in it. So whether it's
latkes, tzimmes, matzoh brie, or plain
ole fried chicken, cook it with Kosher
and Parve Planters Oil. It'll taste
the way it was meant to.

Overcentralization
