Dinitz Meets Golda,
Ministers in Israel

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Israeli Ambassador Simha
Dinitz was in Israel this
week for consultations with
Premier Golda Meir and her
ministers.
He was away from Wash-
ington for about a week.
This was his first visit home
since taking over the ambas-
sadorship in March.

Congress soon will he asked
to enact legislation for joint
American - Israeli research
and other activities regard-
ing education for disadvan-
taged children, Sen. Walter
Mondale (D., Minn.) said.
He told the Jewish Tele-
graphic Agency that he will
introduce legislation during
th'e next few weeks as a part
of the bill for the agency for
international deve opment to

Under his proposal, Mon-
dale said, he envisions the
establishment of a joint gov-
erning boar d of leading
American and Israeli social
scientists in the field of the
socially disadvantaged.
The scientists, selected by
the two governments, would
prepare a p r o g r a m that
would include annual or
semi-annual conferences with
the sites alternating in the
two countries; a modest sec-
retariate; the development of
research; exchanges of infor-
mation by means of lectures;
and possibly a journal to
which social scientists of the
two countries would con-
tribute.
He thought the annual
budget for the project would
be under $5,000,000 to be
appropriated by the U.S.

Sen. Mondale
Seeks joint
Research Act

NEW YORK—Twelve new
Hebrew day schools, includ-
ing seven at the high school
level, have been established
with the opening of the
school year in various parts
of the United States and
Canada, according to a joint
report by Samuel C. Feuer-
stein, president of Torah
Umesorah, the National Soci-
ety for Hebrew Day Schools,
and Dr. Joseph Kaminetsky,
national director, to the day
school society's board of
directors.
The first Hebrew day
school --report of the new
year, which detailed Torah
Umesorah's involvement in
various communities, called
attention of the fact that of
the 12 new schools — seven
were established outside of
New York and only five in
the New York City area.
The total number of He-
brew day schools this year is
a record 413, located in 34
states and about 150 commu-
nities. Nevada and Alabama
were the two new states
which joined the day school
roster this year.
There are an additional 47
schools in five provinces of
Canada. Dr. Kaminetsky said
that enrollment this year is
expected to reach a total of
about 91,000.
