The new shaliakh said he
hopes to continue the work of
his predecessor in strengthen-
ing the Hashomer youth
movement, which under Shur
saw the establishment of new
groups in Ann Arbor and
Chicago and a new summer
camp in the Irish Hills.
On leaving, Shur corn-
, mented that his stay here
I taught him a great deal: "I
learned that I'm a Jew and
that the kibutz is not the cen-
ter of Israel or the center of
the world. I learned that we
are all Jews together." Shur
said he wishes "every Israeli
could be a shaliakh."
In the future, he hopes to
take ;economics and sociology
on the university level, but
for now, he said, "I'll return
to the chicken coop at Kfar
Menahem."
Michigan Scouts
Attend Jamboree
Held in Jerusalem
Among the 54 Boy and Girl
Scouts from around the coun-
try attending the Interna-
tional Scout Jamboree in Je-
rusalem were Sharron Bass
of Livonia, Leon Grundy of
West Bloomfield and David
Fivenson of Alpena.
The scouts spent a few
days in Jerusalem where Is-
raeli scouts planned such ac-
tivities as a games afternoon,
a hiking trip and a campfire.
Tour guides took the scouts
to the Wailing Wall, Yad
Vashem and to other Jeru-
salem landmarks.
Although the Jamboree
lasted four days, many of the
scouts were in Israel for a
month as part of the Girl
Scouts "Wider Opportunities"
program. The Israel tour was
co-sponsored by Girl Scouts
of America and the Syna-
gogue Council of America.
