Riegle to Call Moscow Jewish Family Rep. Donald Riegle of Flint, co-sponsor of the Mills-Vanik I Amendment, which seeks to halt most-favored n a t i o n status to the Soviet Union unless emigration is eased, will call the Victor Fairmark family in Moscow on Sept. 14. The young Jewish family has been trying to leave Russia for over two years, only to be forced to leave Co-Chairmen Picked for Dinner REP. DONALD RIEGLE their jobs and to undergo constant questioning. Fair- mark, a physical chamist, has been arested and beaten for his activities on behalf of Soviet Jewish immigrants. His wife, Galena, a 24-year- old graduate of the Institute of Foreign Language, was fired from her position be- cause of contact with for- eigners. The Fairmarks have a 3-year-old daughter, Irena, who some day will live in Israel. Riegle's call will be the first of a series to Soviet Jewish activists to inform them that America has not forgotten them. The Mills- Vanik and Jackson amend- ments are viewed as tangible proof of that fact. ‘,• . ■) 111 II Who Leads the Jewish Community?
