moved up to decorating and
public relations. She now

To supervise the projects,
Mrs. Susi had to learn about
the laws and facets of real
estate and a little about con-

she can speak easily on
weatherproofing, pouring
concrete properly and the
handling of steel girders.

Mrs. Susi, whose family
migrated to Cuba before
coming to the U. S., said
"It is generally true that a
woman can keep her sensi-
tivity in business more than
a man. That has been my
greatest asset, because I
never lose sight of the fact
that I am dealing with
people who want to make
their home and spend their
lives in projects I repre-
sent."
On being a woman in a
field dominated by men, she
said, "I don't think there are
many people who resent me
because I'm a woman.
Actually they extend a great
deal of courtesy to me."

Some Like It Hot .. On the Other Hand . .

By DAVID SCHWARTZ

I

(Copyright 1973 JTA, Inc.)

The old Jewish method of
cooling off was a glass of hot
tea. (It's as good as an elec-
fan. Try it.)

Another method of cooling
off is funny stories. Like the
time when Louis Lipsky and
Dr. Chaim Weizmann were
sitting in a restaurant drink-
ing tea.
Nearby was another gent
doing the same thing, but the
latter kept stirring the tea
in his glass but had not put
sugar in the tea. "Er ist a
Minsker soicher," said Weiz-
mann. "Er mischt aber legt
nit arein." (He is a Minsk
financier. He manipulates
but does not invest.)
*
Many American Jews in
the earlier days of Zionism
used Zionism as a means to
cool off. They would leave
for Atlantic City in the hot-
test part of the summer. "I
am going to attend the Zion-
ist convention. Israel must THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS
be rebuilt," they would say.
But they were really going
to cool off at Atlantic City,
Most of the Zionist conven-
tions were held there.

Columbus was a smart
fellow. When it got hot in
August, he took a cruise to
America. His old Jewish
friend, Luis de Santangel
came to see him off. "I wish
I could be leaving with you,"
he said. "Spain is no longer
a country for Jews." "Yes,"
said Columbus, "A klug zu
Spain."

but also a little more pure
after a ducking in water.
Israel is fortunate that it has
many beaches.

Being a weather forecaster
in Israel is not easy. Al-
though only 30 miles apart,
the weather in Jerusalem is
different from that of Tel
Aviv, and Safad and Eilat
are quite different.

The weather, thank God,
is one thing unifying human-
ity. Every day thousands of
tons of air come blowing
from all parts of the world
to America and, reversely,
American winds and showers
travel to other parts of the
world. This process respects
no national boundaries.

.
In Israel, if you are hot
in Jerusalem, it's easy to
cool off. You just think how
much hotter it is in Eilat
and you feel cooler.

The rabbis said that after
the destruction of the
Temple, prophecy was left
to the fools. And to the
weather forecasters.

The best method of re-
ducing heat is, of course,
water. Firemen understand
that. It is no wonder that in
Israel the idea arose of im-
mersion in water as a holy

here.
Keating said he would sup-

friendship and mutual un-
derstanding that has pre-
vailed between. the U.S. and
Israel, and above all would
strive to bring a stable peace
to the region.
