Hank Aaron realizes that Babe Ruth was the greatest baseball player the world has ever known. He doesn't want to dent the mighty Lille's reputation. But as he says, what's a fellow to do, top hitting? Perhaps up out of the ball diamond, perhaps emerging from near-deification of Babe Ruth's record and the psy- chic bar now raised against Hank Aaron, we can take a refresher course in prejudice and benefit thereby. For what is prejudice but .‘ emotional, rigid attitude toward an entire group of people? What is the irration- al process by which we pick out objects for contempt, then deliberately screen out that which we might other- wise admire in those scorned? Prejudices are judgments stoutly defended. When we choose to go on including in Clem, we sell short the scrappy Hank Aarons of this world. And come to think of we also sell ourselves short. , The Canadian suit you had to smuggle. Help Provide Necessary High Holy Days Assistance hinds For Needy in Israel SUPPORT THE MIZRACHI GIFT PACKAGE CAMPAIGN ! Read the facts in this reprint from The Jewish News of August 10, 1973 Detroit Mizrachi Launches Rosh Hashana Campaign to Assist Needy Israelis for Holiday Detroit Mizrachi this week launched its annual campaign to assist needy Israelis with necessities of Rosh Hashana. Because the High Holi- days are fast approaching, the Mizrachi Organization of Detroit already has be- gun its annual campaign to assist the needy in Is- rael. Zvi Tomkiewicz, execu- tive director of Detroit Mizrachi, said the mira- culous influx of Russian Jews into Israel makes this campaign of even greater significance than ever before. Food packages, at $15 each, will be sent to the many hundreds of fam- ilies who are in need of such provisions, Tomkie- wicz said. The package will include fish, meat, poultry, instant coffee, wine, sugar, eggs, choco- late oil, cocoa, honey, prunes, sardines, nuts, jam, desserts and other food items. As in previous years, Mizrachi has arranged for Super-Sol Markets in Is- rael to do the packaging and delivery, and thus "we can render special services to the needy," Tomkiewicz said. At the same time, the program contributes toward strengthening Israel's eco- nomy, with American dol- lars given for food pack- ages. Checks can be mailed now to the Mizrachi of- fice, 23125 Coolidge, Oak Park 48237. For informa- tion, call the Mizrachi of- fice, 398-7180.
