TEL AVIV (JTA) — The
Israeli Merchant Marine
sailed again Sunday, after
the seamen agreed to end
their wildcat strike and re-
turn to normal work while
negotiations are held with
the shipping companies un-
der the auspices of Histadrut.
The six-day strike cost Is-
rael some IL 10,000,000 ($2,-
500,000), as many ships were
idled and goods were not
loaded. It is hoped that with
the resumption of normal
work, an effort will be made
to hasten loading of grain
and other essential commod-
ities in foreign ports.
Zim notified its employes
that it was cancelling all
dismissal letters. Y i t z h a k
Ben Aharon, Histadrut's lead-
er, w a s instrumental in
bringing the strike to an end.
Knesset Speaker Israel
Yeshayahu had called the
Knesset back from vacation
for a meeting Monday to
discuss the seamen's strike.
The session was scheduled
after Gahal, the Free Center
and the State List presented
the necessary 30 signaures
necessary to call the Knesset
back into session.

Calendar for 5734

LONDON (JTA) — The
calendar of the Federation
of Jewish Communities in
Romania — which also bears
the Hebrew title Luah — for
5734 — has just appeared.
In addition to the routine
material, the diary also in-
cludes a list of Jewish laws
and customs relating to the
various periods of the year
and covering all festivals,
as well as days of rejoicing
and mourning which are not
days of rest. -
The statistical columns of
the diary record that there
are at present 68 Jewish
communities in Romania
based in 27 towns.
Some of the towns thus
have more than one com-
munity, which is a group of
Jews centered around a

house of prayer. On the other
hand, some religious com-
munities run more than one
synagogue. The total num•
ber of synagogues in the
country is 153.
The Federation of Jewish
Communities is also engaged
in comprehensive welfare
work. The welfare program
is a joint enterprise of the
American Joint Distribution
Committee and the Federa-
tion of Jewish Communities
in Romania.
The diary, like most Ro-
manian-Jewish publications,
