This 'Club' Is for Learning

Mishkan Israel Religious
School is wooing children
away from the television set
and into the classroom with
a new approach to learning.
Mrs. Lillian Greenwald,
director of the school ex-
plained:
"We hire only young
teachers, college-age men
and women, with whom the
kids can identify. We pre-
sent the classroom sessions
as part of a larger program
which includes youth activi-
ties such as trips to New
York City and to local places
of interest, a snowmobile
trip in winter, games every
Sunday afternoon and swim-
ming and archery clubs."
Athletic activities include
a baseball team to challenge
other Detroit Hebrew schools
and there is a school news-
paper. "Many of our boys
and girls are instantly
recognized by the blue and
white school sweatshirts
they wear," she added. "It's
no wonder our kids love to
come to school."
Aside from regular Hebrew
school, Sunday school and
Bar Mitzva classes, Mish-
kan Israel has set up a
special education program
for slow and problem learn-
ers. They also have a rabbi's
teen class for boys and girls
age 13-16.
To register, call the school
office, 548-2666.
