The new synagogue will be utilized for immigrants from Georgia and Bukhara. A leader of the local Buk- hara community, Moshiach Yitchakub, appealed to the religious community to assist them in solving their prob- lems. "We lacked nothing in Tashkent, Bukhara," he said. "We came up to the Holy Land only so that we and our children can remain true Jews in the spirit of Torah. In Russia we suffered prison for our beliefs, but we were not frightened by threats and imprisonment. We have only one request now—help us ful- fill our wish".
