Germany TEL AVIV (JTA) — The World Congress of Polish Jews appealed to the world to bar East Germany from the UN. A resolution adopted by the congress stated that East Germany was not entitled to admission to the UN or to diplomatic recognition by enlightened nations because it refused to acknowledge its obligations to Jews in gen- tral and specifically to Polish Jews who were among the first victims of the Nazis. The congress expressed its appreciation to West Ger- many for its efforts to com- pensate Nazi victims but at the same time demanded that compensation be paid also to those victims who through no fault of their own missed the deadline for sub- mitting claims. The anti-Semitic campaign in Poland was condemned in another resolution. "The few Jews who remained in Po- land after the war have been driven out despite the services they rendered to the Polish people, at the ex- pense of fidelity to their own,” the resolution stated. The congress also noted that the Polish authorities have cut off old-age and other pensions of many Jews who left Poland "in viola- tion of her international ob- ligations and her own laws." Prof. MEIR WILCHEK, whose research in the Weiz- mann Institute's department of biophysics has led to the development of new methods for studying the relationship between structure and func- tion in proteins, has been named Marc R. Gutwirth Professor of Molecular Biol- ogy at the institute. Settlers Get Large Treasury Tax Cut ewry on die Air JERUSALEM (JTA)—The treasury announced larger tax concessions for Jews going to settle across the Green Line. Settlers in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank will be exempt on their first IL 600 ($150) per month, while settlers in the Jordan Valley, the Golan Heights, Sinai, Hebron and the Etzion block will be exempt on IL 750. This compares to current exemptions of IL 400 and IL 600 respectively. These exemptions are in addition to regular wife-and-children exemptions which all Israelis receive.
