Katz, 28; Official in Alaska Hans Einstein, Scientist's Son Daniel Alan Katz, a native Detroiter who had lived most of his life in East Lansing and now was serving as per- sonnel director of fish and game for the state of Alaska, died July 25.in Juneau. He was 28. NEW YORK — Dr. Hans Einstein, son of- the late Dr. Albert Einstein, died July 27 at age 69. Born in Bern, Switzerland, Dr. Einstein became a naturalized citizen in 1943 and joined the University of He leaves his wife, Linda; a daughter, Keiren; his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo (Jennie) Katz of East Lan- sing; his grandfather, Ben Stern of Miami; a brother, Michael of East Lansing; three uncles, including Harry Prepsky and Harold Stern, Mr. Katz, a graduate of and an aunt, Pauline Coskey, Michigan State University, all of Detroit. He was an inter- nationally known hydraulic engineer, specializing in sedi- ment movement in streams and harbors. Dr. Einstein won a Gug- genheim Fellowship in 1953 and became a professor emeritus in 1971. He retired from formal education in 1971, but continued to be ac tive in research and in teach- ing graduate students. When asked about how it felt being the son of a famous scientist, the younger Einstein replied: "It would have been nerve- racking if, early in life, I didn't learn how to laugh off the bother of it." Phillip Willis, 83, of Scrap Company Phillip Willis, founder of Willis Waste Material and partner in Eastern Iron and Metal, died Monday at age 83. Mr. Willis, 19100 W. Seven Mile, was a member of the Rovner Lachovitcher Aid So- ciety and the Hebrew Benev- olent Society and a life member of Pisgah Lodge of Bnai Brith. He is survived by his wife, Rachel; a son, Nathan; three daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Irene) Citron, Mrs. Herbert (Esther) Fealk and Mrs. Fred (Ann) Benderoff; 14 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. Halevi, Leader of Rabbis JERUSALEM (JTA) — Rabbi Shalom Yitzhak Ha- levi, the doyen of Israel's Yemenite rabbis, died July 26 at age 83. The son of the Yemenite scholar and leader, Rabbi Yihye Yitzhak Halevi, Rabbi Shalom Yitzhak Halevi came to this country 50 years ago. For more than 40 years he served as a dayan (judge) in the rabbinical courts of Tel Aviv and for the past 18 years he had been a member of the Chief Rabbinate Coun- cil. Rabbi Halevi authored several literary works of note in the field of Halakha, and also edited manuscripts of Yemenite scholars for publication. He lectured at yeshivot in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and was renowned throughout the Yemenite community for his charity and good deeds. Isaac Allen; Led NY Zionist Council NEW YORK—Isaac Allen, a lawyer and talmudic scholar active in the Zionist movement, died July 25 at age 98. Mr. Allen, who came to the U.S. in 1891, was a founder of the American Jewish Committee and the American Jewish Congress. He helped to organize the Federation of American Zionists in 1897, was president of the first New York Zionist Council in 1898 and was a founder of the Mizrachi Organization, of America in 1912. • He was graduated from New York University Law School in 1901 and wrote regularly in the Yiddish Tageblatt on American law, history, civics and customs. July 31. Survived by her husband, Isaac; a son, Harold; two Benjamin Rothman, Producer, Agent NEW YORK — Benjamin Rothman, who in 45 years handled publicity for more than 300 Yiddish-language theatrical productions, died July 27 at age 76. He was producer of the 1966 documentary film, "The Last Chapter," depicting 1,000 years of Jewish life in Poland_ Mr. Rothman, who worked for the Yiddish daily the Day after coming to this country from Poland in 1920, oper- ated the President Theater here for three years and also produced the first Israeli play in English, "Sands of the Negev." In 1959, he produced a touring version of the Eng- lish-Jewish play, "The World of Sholem Aleichem."
