Monday's gathering of members of Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan University was devoted to planning for the annual Bar-Ilan dinner to be held Sept. 20 at Cong. Shaarey Zedek. Phillip Stoliman, chairman of the Bar-Ilan administra- tive committee, who was greeted by Prof. Enker on the occasion of having been awarded an honorary doc- torate by Bar-Ilan last month, at the commence- ment on the university cam- pus in Ramat Gan, Israel, spoke of Bar-Ilan's achieve. ments and urged increased support for the school. He introduced the chairman of the Sept. 20 dinner, Dr. Leon Fill, who, in turn, asked for support for the university. Dr. Fill expressed the hope that this year's income will exceed previous gifts as a tribute to the Stollman fam- ily's pioneering efforts ofr Bar-Ilan. Plans for the annual 1 dinner were outlined by De- troit's Bar-Ilan executive director, Zvi Tomkiewicz. Detroit's role in establish- ing the Judge Theodore Levin Chair in Law at Bar- Ilan University in Israel was credited with having spurred the progress achieved by that university's law school. Speaking to Detroit Friends of Bar-Ilan University, at a reception in his honor, at the North Park Towers Pent- house, Monday evening, Dean Arnold N. Enker of Bar-Ilan Law School told of the school's developments and the procedures that have been introduced in the law department that was estab- lished three years ago. Prof. Enker this week completed a two-month lec- tureship at the University of Michigan Law School, as a visiting professor. Prior to having gone on aliya to be- come dean of the Bar-Ilan law school, he was on the faculty of the University of Minnesota. Previously, he also was a visiting profes- sor at the Hebrew University. He had studied at Yeshiva and Harvard universities. In his address here, Prof. Enker told of research in Jewish law being conducted at Bar-Ilan.
