Lions to Roam in Ramat Gitri National Park ' z-7 " COJO Resolutions

By MENAHEM SHMUEL
TEL AVIV — Bulldozers
have changed the landscape
at the Krinitzi National Park
of Ramat Gan for a zoologi-
cal park to open in August.
The nation park's director,
Zvi Kirmayer, is careful to
call the undertaking a zoo-
logical park, although from
his description it is clear

Cruise Traffic Up

NEW YORK—Cruise traf-
fic to Israel during the first
six months of 1973 rose 56
per cent, compared to the
same period in 1972.
General tourism to Israel
during the same period
showed a 3.6 per cent drop.
In the first six months of
1973, 28,300 persons visited
Israel on cruises, compared
to 18,200 in 1972.

that he is referring to a
safari park — a zoo in which
the animals are kept in sur-
roundings natural to them.
The Ramat Gan park yill
cover 225 acres and will be
inhabited by 400 herbivorous
wild animals, and, in a secur-
ity area behind a double
fence, 12 lions.
The animals will roam
freely, while spectators will
remain locked safely in their
cars along the winding, four
mile road. Such parks, ac-
cording to Kirmayer, are
found today in most devel-
oped countries. He himself,
on a study tour, visited :a
"safari parks" in England,
Germany, Austria, Holland
and other European coun-
tries.

ceroses, 250 antelopes and
gazelles of all types, hun-
dreds of waterfowl, such as
flamingos, pelicans and
others, plus 12 lions.
The zoological park will be
apart from the national park.
Admission to the zoological
park for a "safari tour" will
be by ticket. the price of
which has not as yet been
set. These will be sold only
to owners of cars with a roof
and pane doors. Organized
bus tours also will be per-
mitted.
In case of a breakdown,
passengers will not be allow-
ed to leave the cars. The
driver will blow his horn,
and rescue teams of the
park's caretakers will hasten
to his aid, traveling in
special patrol vehicles
equipped with wireless
radios, all along the road.
The park is being erected
by a corporation owned by
the Ramat Gan municipality
and an investor from East
Africa.
The mayor and park of-
ficials believe that 400,000
persons will visit the park
in one year. They expect to
reap additional profit from
the sale of surplus progeny
of the animals in the Ramat
Gan park to parks in other
countries, where the market
for cubs is unlimited.
Kirmayer believes that the
zoological park not only will
pay for itself as a popular
amusement enterprise but
also will release the muni-
cipality from the burden of
the IL 1,000,000 expense in-
curred by the national park
operation. —Ma a riv

GENEVA (JTA) — The
World Conference of Jewish
Organizations (COJO) at its
meetings here, adopted a
series of resolutions.
One of them paid tribute
to the "heroic steadfastness
of Soviet Jews who in the
face of discrimination, ha-
rassment and intimidation
asserted their identity with
their people and persevered
in their endeavors to join
their brethren in Israel."
The resolution demanded
the removal of all restraints
upon the emigration of Jews
desiring to leave the USSR
and called for the restoration
of Jewish religious, cultural
and communal rights inside
the USSR, as guaranteed by
the Soviet constitution.
Another resolution reaf-
firmed full support for Israel
in its struggle for a just and
lasting peace based upon
contractually binding peace
treaties; condemned "the
wanton and criminal activities
of Arab terrorist organiza-
tions and those Arab states
which share the responsibil-
ity for these inhuman acts
by enabling them to operate
from their territories;" and
voiced deep concern that
avowed Arab terrorist organ-
izations are permitted to
maintain offices in a number
of countries.
A third resolution express-
ed solidarity with Jews still
held as hostages in some
Arab countries and called on
Syria and Iraq to stop the
oppression of the Jewish
communities in those coun-
tries.
