opened at Bar-Ilan Univer-
sity. The exhibition, which is
being held in the Wurzweiler
Library on the Bar-Ilan cam-
pus in Ramat Gan, Israel, is
in honor of the International
Year of the Book proclaimed
by UNESCO commemorating
the 500th anniversary of the
discovery of printing.
The exhibition portrays in
chronological order, incuna-

before 1500), the rise to su-

Dr. Leon Fill Named Ear-Ilan
1973 General Dinner Chairman

Phillip Stollman, chairman I
of Detroit Friends of Bar-
Ilan University, announces
the appointment of Dr. Leon
Fill as general chairman of
the annual Bar-Ilan dinner
to be held Sept. 20 at Cong.
Shaarey Zedek.
Stollman, who was award-
ed an honorary doctorate at
the university's annual com-
mencement last month, point-
ed out that Bar-Ilan 'Univer-
sity, now in its 18th year, is
entering a new phase of de-
velopment. To continue meet-
ing the demands made upon
it, the university is planning
a IL 200,000,000 building
program on the land it ac-
quired not long ago which
doubles the size of the cam-
pus to 500 dunams, Stollman
said.
A series of buildings is to
be erected to house depart-
ments and faculties which
are rapidly outgrowing their
present premises. Among the
new buildings will be those
for law, Jewish studies, eco-
nomics, social work, a fac-
ulty house and a central
synagogue. More dormitories
are also to be built to absorb
a larger number of students
from abroad, a task that Bar-
Ilan sees as one of its main
functions.
"Although the university's
student body has grown from
70 to 6,000 students, it has
jealously guarded the close
relationship between student

brain, which is so valuable
for training the leaders, sci-
entists, educators and intel-
lectuals of tomorrow," Stolli
man said. He added:
"On the 25th anniversary
of Israel, Bar-Ilan looks back
on a period of devoted ser-
vice to the state and to the
Jewish people. Its graduates

Israel and abroad, while its Religious Zionist Movement and for many years the
head of the Detroit Mizrachi organization, is shown here
receiving an honorary doctorate from Bar-Ilan University
in Israel. On the right is Dr. Joseph H. Lookstein, chan-
cellor of the university. Others who received honorary doc-
torates at the commencement exercises in Ramat Gan,
Israel, June 25, were Elie Wiesel, the noted author, and
Rabbi Seymour M. Zambrowsky, formerly of Toronto and
now a resident of Jerusalem. Among those who received
Bar-Ilan doctorates was Mrs. Ora Entin of Ramat Gan,
mother of 3-year-old triplets. Mordechai H. Stern, a mem-
ber of the board of trustees, received a master's degree.
Speaking at the dinner after the ceremony, Stollman said
that in th next decade Bar-Ilan would make greater prog-
ress than in the past. On June 19, Bar-Ilan conferred 860
bachelor degrees, certificates and diplomas—the largest
number in its history. Among the graduates was the pilot
Giora Rom, a former prisoner-of-war in Egypt who received
a BA in economics and political science. Eleven Arab
students
were graduated.

research projects and pub-
lications have benefitted Is-
rael and the Diaspora and
shed new light on the herit-
age of the whole House of
Israel.
"Bar-Ilan continues to
cherish its four-fold aim—
to promote higher education
in the liberal arts and sci-
ences; to integrate a general
education with the spiritual
heritage of the Jewish peo-
ple; to serve the intellectual
and professional needs of Is-
rael, and to build a cultural
bridge between the Jewries
of the world and the Jewish
homeland."
