mage sale will go to support
the diversified activities of
the organization such as
visits to hospitals and nur-
sing homes, gifts to the poor,
distribution of matzot on
Pesah and shalakh manot on
Purim.

ORT ACTIVITIES IN HAIFA
Women's Israel ORT has
undertaken responsibility for
dining facilities as well as
cultural and sports activities
for the 1,000 students at the
ORT school in Haifa. Par-
ticular attention is paid
to the students from under-
privileged families.

CHICAGO — Dr. Harold
B. Barrie, St. Paul, Minn.,
dentist, was elected presi-
dent of Bnai Brith District
Grand Lodge No. 6, which
includes Michigan, at the
105th annual convention held
here last week.
Among the Detroiters at-
tending the convention were
Herman Kasoff who was
elected third vice president,
Nate Rubenstein and Louis
Segel of the Metropolitan De-
troit Council who were elect-
ed to the district board of
governors and Samuel W.
Leib who was re-elected to
the board of Bellefaire,
Other Michigan attendees
were Jerome Weiss of the
Michigan Council, elected to
the district board of gover-
nors and Dr. William Haber
of Ann Arbor, world presi-
dent of ORT who delivered
a 50th anniversary tribute
to the Bnai Brith Hillel
Foundations.
Lodge bulletin awards
were given to Albert D.
Tucker Lodge for "Tucker
Topics," Mary Kaplan, edi-
tor, first place in the mimeo-
graph division; and to Harry
B. Keidan Lodge for "Great
News," David A. Jaffa, edi-
tor, second place in the off-
set division.
More than 500 delegates,
alternates and guests attend-
ed the convention, represent-
ing 37,500 members and 228
lodges in Illinois, Wisconsin,
Michigan, • Nebraska, Iowa,
Minnesota, North and South

tion $650,000 to the Bnai
Brith Youth Services Appeal,
including Bnai Brith Hillel

Brith career and counseling
services. The balance will
go to the Anti-Defamation
League, the Bnai Brith chap-
laincy at the Mayo Clinic in
Rochester, Minn. ; the Leo
N. Levi Memorial Hospital
in Hot Springs, Ark., the
National Jewish Hospital in
Denver, the Bellefaire Home
in Cleveland, the Bureau on
Jewish Employment Prob-
lems and Bnai Brith projects
in Israel.
Among the resolutions on
national and international
problems endorsed by the
delegates were urging a
program for bringing peace
and security to the Middle
East on the basis of face-to-
face negotiations between
the two sides, opposing the
expenditure of public funds
in aid of nonpublic schools,
urging the implementation of
a program which would at-
tack the major causes of
poverty, urging support for
proper and just gun control
legislation and a re-examina-
tion budget and program
priorities for senior citizens.
