TEL AVIV (ZINS) — A
Friday, July 6, 1973-31

JERUSALEM (JTA)--Some
100 food and wine editors
from more than 20 countries
ate and drank their way
around Israel last week.
The International Federa-
tion of Gastronomic and Wine
Press began its annual con-
ference at the Shalom Hotel
June 27 as guests of Israel's
Tourist Ministry under the
patronage of the Internation-
al Restaurateurs Association.
They began their tour with
a sampling of Israeli foods
from whole stuffed duck to
the typical Israeli dairy
breakfast. They were wined
and dined by Tourism Min-
ister Moshe Kol at what has
been billed as a "Queen of
Sheba Dinner."
An Israeli chef's competi-
tion was judged by an inter-
national panel headed by
federation president Jean
Arnaboldi and Jean Valery,
president of the restaurateurs
group.
The menus included a typi-
cal Bedouin lunch at the Ein
Bokek Hotel near the Dead
Sea; a "Loaves and Fishes"
lunch at the Galei Kinneret
Hotel in Tiberias; a "Milk-
and-Honey" dinner at Ayelet
Hashahar in Galilee; and a
"Mt. Carmel Lunch" at the
Dan Carmel Hotel overlook.
ing Haifa.
The grand finale of the
tour was a 25th anniversary
dinner at the Tel Aviv Hilton
Sunday. Hundreds of Israelis
in the hotel and tourist busi-
ness were invited to the food
and wine tasting session at
the Shalom Hotel from which
officials hope to get new
ideas.

curiously ironic coincidence
of the current doctors' strike
in Israel is the fact reported
by the Central Burial Society
that funerals have declined
by 50 per cent. The Hevra
Kadisha (burial society) also
called attention to the fact
that the same thing occurred
some 20 years ago during a
previous physicians' strike.
No one seems to be able to
offer any plausible explana-
tion for this strange phenom-
enon.

Israelis Back Nixon

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — The
majority of Israelis is un-
wavering in its support of
President Richard M. Nixon,
believing that he has no
cause to resign over the
Watergate scandal, according
to an extensive Gallup poll
taken recently in all parts of
the country. Fifty-five per
cent of those interview said
the President should remain
at his post. Only 8 per cent
said that the President ought
to resign.
