ment leaders are reportedly
troubled at the manner in
which ex-President Zalman
Shazar was treated following
the swearing-in ceremonies
of his successor, Prof.
Ephraim Katzir.

at Jerusalem's Hotel Moriah,
there was no one to receive
him other than the manager
of the hotel. No government
minister nor any of his

highest post in the Jewish
state, he had no visitors, or
other company, after the
Knesset ceremonial.
Haaretz wrote that this
conduct toward a former
president of the state is only
'a reflection of the prevail-
ing mentality which violates
every precept of respect and
deference due a leader who
has served his country faith-
fully and well.'
In an editorial comment,
Haaretz characterized it as
"heartless, humiliating and
most offensive."
After the official cere-
monies in the Knesset, ac-
cording to the newspaper

Several new techniques
were developed in the
creation of "Jubilee." Be-
cause of its enormous size
and weight, the artist dealt
with the problem of getting
into the middle of the paint-
ing by having engineered a
mobile steel bridge which
enabled him to reach the in-
terior of the painting by
being suspended over it on
his stomach.
Special derrick equipment
and revised truck design was
constructed to enable the
movement of the mammoth
painting from its out-size
studio to its present site on
the outer shopping center
wall.
"Jubilee" is enhanced by
night-time illumination with
strategically placed flood-
lights. The artist has indi-
cated that using the special
oil paints with additional
treatment on his galvanized
steel "canvas," the painting
should last the lifetime of
the Center—and beyond.
