When the police arrived,

RABBI KRONISH

Greater Detroit community
must subscribe an additional
$3,000,000 in investments in
Israel to fulfill the $8,000,000
pledge for 1973.
Pollack said this pledge
was made to Prime Minister
Golda Meir by the Detroit
delegation to the Israel Bond
conference in Jerusalem in
which he and David Herme-
lin were this community's
participants.
At the dinner meeting,
Rabbi Leon Kronish, newly-
elected national campaign
chairman for Israel Bonds,
listed the major responsibili-
ties that still apply to the
forces engaged in efforts in
Israel's behalf. He empha-
sized the need to give
strength both to the United
Jewish Appeal and to Israel
Bonds, and warned of the
danger of feeling too secure
about Israel's status. "We
have only just begun to
scratch the surface in sup-
plying assistance to the em-
battled country," he said.
Herbert Worschauer, na-
tional director of field opera-
tions for Israel Bonds, an-
other guest at the annual
meeting, told how the $360,-
000,000 goal for Bond sales
was arrived at for 1973. He
commended the efforts of the
Detroit Israel Bond director,
Louis Levitan, for having
raised the standards of ef-
forts in Bond sales among
Detroiters.

Kahane in Fourth
Week of Detention

JERUSALEM (JTA)—Jew-
ish Defense League leader
Rabbi Meir Kahane entered
his fourth week in custody
without having been present-
ed with the evidence avail-
able against him.
Kahane, last Friday, lodg-
ed an appeal against his con-
tinued detention. State At-
torney General Gabriel Bach
explained that the police in-
vestigation in the case was
continuing in Israel and
abroad and that Kahane's re-
lease might hinder its pro-
gress.
The JDL leader was re-
manded three weeks ago in
connection with sending of
what was described as racial
incitement letters to Arab
citizens in Israel urging them
to leave the country.
He was released four days
later but immediately rede-
tained on suspicion of con-
spiring to persuade people in
the U.S. to commit acts of
violence against foreign dip-
lomats.
Details of state evidence
against Kahane were not re-
vealed to Kahane's lawyer
nor made public after the
judge agreed with the state
attorney that this might pre-
udice the police investiga-
tion.
