MISS LINDA CENKO

Mr. and Mrs. John Cenko
of Huron, 0., announce the
engagement of their daugh-
ter Linda Marie to Frederick
N. Jacobs, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Sidney R. Jacobs of
Stellamar Dr., Southfield.
Miss Cenko attends Wash-
tena w Community College.
Her fiance earned his under-
graduate degree at the Uni-
versity of Michigan and is
working on a master's de-
gree in broadcast journalism.
A June 1974 wedding is
planned.

There is much difference
between imitating a good
man and counterfeiting him.
—Benjamin Franklin.

TORONTO—Sol Hatzadika,
Sol the Righteous One, is
how the Sephardic commu-
nity here refers to a young
martyr who in 1831 chose
death rather than forsake
her Judaism, in Tangier,
Morocco.
Each year, in June, her
memory is honored in a
special service. The beauti-
ful daughter of Shiomo Hag-
wil, Sol was begged by the
crown prince to become his
bride. She refused because
the condition was that she
convert to Islam.
Despite all threats and
pleas, Sol refused to forsake
her religion, choosing death
instead. Her courage and de-
votion have inspired the
Sephardic community ever
since.
The tradition of commem-
orating Sol Hatzadika in-
cludes the presentation of a
play and a ballad. The serv-
ice here at Petah Tikvah
Anshe Castilla is attended
mostly by women, with the
number of men limited to a
minyan of 10.
At the conclusion of the
service, the women light
candles and sing the ballad
in Spanish of the brave
young girl.
