Addicted Jewish Mothers Reported by NYC Agency NEW YORK (JTA) — A 1971 study of children under care by the Jewish Child Care Association of New York indicated that 95 of the children had mothers or mothers and fathers reported to be heroin addicts, the JCCA has disclosed. A JCAA spokesman said that about two-thirds of the addicted mothers were Jew- ish. The study was made in March 1971 by Dr. Sol Nich- tern, director of psychiatric services for the JCCA. The 95 children comprised 8.6 per cent of the children then under care of the'JCCA, a beneficiary of the Federa- tion of Jewish Philanthropies. The agency reported that 22 - - -re placed in the first ye :of their lives and an additional 16 in the second year. Dr. Nichtern reported that nearly all of the younger children were conceived out of wedlock by teen-age girls. He also reported a "strik- ingly high incidence of pre- natal problems and damage at the time of birth, histories of attempted abortionS, mis- carriages, trauma during pregnancy, prematurity and a number of reported birth injuries." Israeli Labor, German SDP Agree to Hold Yearly Meetings BONN (JTA) — A visiting Israel Labor Party delega- tion concluded Monday what it described as "satisfactory" talks with leaders of West Germany's ruling Social Democratic Party (SDP), in- cluding Chancellor Willy Brandt. The Israeli group, headed by Labor Party Secretary General Aharon Yadlin, re- turned to Israel Wednesday. The Israelis and SPD lead- ers clashed Monday with members of the Union of Young Socialists (JUSO), a dissident youth group within the SPD which regards the present Israeli regime as im- perialistic and expansionist.
