Mr. Ellias, who died in May 1952, was a familiar figure in Trenton, according to a Trenton Times article that followed his obituary. He was seen daily delivering groceries door-to-door, wear- ing leather walking boots at a time when not many per- sons owned them, and he never complained about the countless steps he took making his rounds, Before coming to Trenton, Mr. Ellias and his family were farmers in the Thumb district of the state. When his family decided to move to Trenton, he followed. He had a philosophy that he held to all of his life: "You can't live by the day!" the Times article quoted. "One has got to take a chance, or you'll never get anywhere,' he would say." He took chances in his re- lationships with people. He loved Trenton and took an interest in its people, so that "no one in trouble who ever went to him was turned away." He disliked the ostentatious and denied that his influence was of import, but the Times disagreed. "There are many, Sliced or Halves 28-oz. $1 51 No Return Bottles 3 29-oz. Cans Manischewitz 35c....
