Eban Cancels Trip
to African States

JERUSALEM (JTA)—For
eign Minister Abba Eban has
postponed his visit to African
states which was to have be-
gun this week, the foreign
ministry said. No new date
has been set.
A ministry spokesman said
the foreign minister was too
busy to go to Africa at this
time, particularly while the
UN Security Council is in the
midst of its general debote
on the Middle East.
Some observers suggested
that Eban put off his visit in
view of the anti-Israel resolu-
tions adopted at the recent
congress of the Organization
for African Unity (OAU) in
Addis Ababa.
They said Israel preferred
to let some time pass before
the foreign minister under-
takes his journey to Africa.

State will receive $500,000 in
textbooks as a result of a
state aid to education bill
just signed by Gov. Nelson
A. Rockefeller, Rabbi Moshe
Sherer, executive president
of the Agudath Israel of
America said.
Rabbi Sherer said the bill
provides textbooks for chil-
dren attending all nonpublic
schools in the state from
kindergarten through the
sixth grade. Nonpublic school
students from the seventh
through 12th grades have
been receiving free textbooks
from the state since 1966.
The constitutionality of the
original textbook law was
upheld by the U. S. Supreme
Court, and its extension to
the lower grades is not ex-

Rabbi Sherer said.
