Southfield Violinist Invited to Aspen

A 20-year-old Southfield
violinist has been selected to
be a member of the Aspen
Festival Orchestra in Aspen,
Colo., this summer. The or-
chestra is comprised of pro-
fessional musicians from all
over the 'country, as well as
talented young artists.

Abramson of Marimoor Ave.,
has a number of music
awards and scholarships in-
cluding the 1973 Federation
of Music Clubs' national stu-
dent award for violin.
Miss Abramson preformed
at the national convention of
the Federation of Music
Clubs in Atlantic City in
early April. Her award was
announced at that time. Later
that month, she was a guest
performer at the state con-
vention of the federation in
Lansing.
In the fall she will begin
working on a master's de-
gree in violin at Juilliard
School in New York, where
she has an honorary schol-
arship.

A group of hard-working,
baseball-loving sixth graders
from Yeshivath Beth Yehuda
and Akiva Hebrew Day
School decided to form their
own "Shomer Shabas" base-
ball teams.
The boys arranged all prac-
tices and coached the teams
themselves. Last Sunday's
game at Tyler school field
gave Yeshiva a 4-3 victory.
Members of the winning
team are Douglas Krieger,
team manager. Moshe Gold-
stein, Mendel Seagle, Martin
Brin, Billy Zack, Richard
Weiss, David Roth, Mor-
dechai Terabelo and Avram
Boruch Zachariash.
David Ruby, Akiva team
manager, predicts "a tough
comeback" in July.

United Synagogue Youth will
be installed at a dinner 7:15
p.m. Monday at the syna-
gogue. Parents are invited
to the event, at which youth
awards will be presented.
The youth members will
spend the day at Bob Lo, as
guests of the synagogue. The
bus will leave Adat Shalom
at 9:05 a.m. and return at
6:10 p.m. USYers are asked

Young Israel Teens Honored

The theme of the program
will be "From Dream to
R ea lit y", commemorating
the 25th anniversary of the
state of Israel. Representing
branches of the elementary
department, Annette Weiss,
Deborah Loomus, Shari Hor-
witz and Sharon Staller will
participate.

Highlight of the program
will be a cantata adapted by
Morris Nobel and performed
by all the graduates under
the direction of Cantor Sho-
lom Kalib, UHS music direc-
tor.
