$5 Million Drive Aids
Jerusalem Synagogue

NEW YORK—A $5,000,000
campaign for the construction
of the largest synagogue com-
plex ever to be built in Jeru-
salem will be launched at a
dinner of the Jerusalem Great
Synagogue to be held June
14 in the Waldorf-Astoria
Hotel.
The dinner will pay tribute
to the synagogue's founder
members, one of whom is
Phillip Stollman of Detroit.
Abraham D. Beame, New
York city controller, will re-
ceive the Jerusalem Heritage
Award, and featured speak-
ers will be Sen. John V. Tun-
ney of California and Dr.
Maurice A. Jaffe, president
of the. Union of Israel Syna-
gogues.

First Jewish Studies
in Argentina College

The first Jewish studies
courses in any Argentine uni-
versity has been started at
the Universidad del Salvador,
a Jesuit institution here.
Prof. Luis Ronitger will give
a course on the Hebrew
language, Rabbi Estaban
Veghazi will teach Jewish
post-Biblical history, a n d
Prof. Jaime Barylko will pre-
sent a course on Jewish phil-
osophy.
The program is the result
of a joint effort by Rev. Dr.
Ismael Quiles, rector of the
university, and ,Tacobo Ko-
vadloff, director of the
American Jewish. Commit-
tee's South American Insti-
tute of Human Relations.

LENINGRAD (ZINS) — A
statistical breakdown of 31,-
000 Soviet Jews who came
to Israel in 1972 reveals a
