1971-72, 9,200,000 books were
published in Israel, register-
ing a slight increase over the
previous year. Books publish-
ed for the first time during
the year showed an appre-
ciable increase-2,141. How-
ever, there was a consider-
able drop in the number of
reprints, about 1,200 — 250
fewer than in the previous
year.
Of the total number of
3,368 books brought out in
Israel during 1971-72, as
compared with an annual
average of 2,800 in the period
1965-1970, 37 per cent were
fiction; 13 percent in the field
of Judaica; 12 per cent in
the humanities and 6 per cent
in the natural sciences.
