by Rabbi Levin
Editor, The Jewish News:
A recent letter deplored
the problem of the aguna, the
forsaken woman who cannot
obtain a Jewish divorce from
a stubborn and recalcitrant
husband.
While the problem is a real
one, it simply is not true that
a husband can divorce his
wife without her consent.
Under our system, the Beth
Din requires the free will and
consent of both parties be-
