Ethnic Festivals
to Begin Tonight

The Ethnic Festival site
behind Cobo Hall will re-
awaken with the sounds of
Greek bouzouki music today
through Monday at the river-
front.
The success of the annual
Greek festival in Greektown
helped convince city leaders
three years ago to create an
expanded series encompass-
ing many ethnic groups.
In the booths for sale this
weekend will be Greek foods,
paintings, jewelry, linens
and other imports will be on
sale. Demonstrations will be
given in the making of pas-
try, shish kabob and hand-
sewn pieces.
The festival officially will
open at 6:15 p.m. today with
the crowning of a Greek
Festival queen and Greek
dancers. The remainder of
the Friday program will be
professional entertainers. The
festival is open to the public
from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. today
and noon to 11 p.m. Saturday,
Sunday and Monday.
