For 70 years, Shaare Zedek
Hospital has served the med-
ical needs of Jews, Chris-
tians and Moslems during
wars and epidemics, under
Turkish and British rule and
since the inception of the
state of Israel.
From its modest beginning
in 1902, it has grown to serve
the needs of an ever-expand-
ing Jerusalem. It is con-
structing a new medical cen-
ter with completion sched-
uled for 1975. It is being built
on a 15-acre site in Jerusa-
lem opposite Mt. Herzl.

The eight-bed unit for in-
tensive care of patients suf-
fering from chronic kidney
disease will be unlike other
sections of the hospital. Be-
cause dialysis is performed
on an outpatient level and
because there are very dif-
ficult psychological problems
related to the treatment,
beds and the decor will be
designed to give the patients
the feeling that they are par-
taking in a social experience.
In this way, it becomes
easier for patients, who must
spend two days a week,
every week for the rest of
their lives at the hospital in
order to purify their blood
for treatment.

WASHINGTON—The 200th
anniversary of Haym Salo-
mon's arrival in America is
being celebrated with a spe-
cial commemorative medal
distributed by the Bnai Brith
Philatelic Service. A biog-
raphy is included.
The collector's service also
has available a first-day cov-
er honoring Salomon, post-
marked April 13, issue date
of the 8-cent American bi-
centennial commemorative
broadside stamp.
The 500 silver and 1,000
bronze medals were produced
in a limited edition by the
Judah MAgnes Memorial Mu-
seum in Berkeley, Calif.
Salomon, who emigrated
from Poland in 1773, made
his mark in history as "a
financier of the American
Revolution."
Salomon settled in Phila-
delphia and assisted historic
Mikveh Israel Congregation
in constructing its first build-
ing. Along with other promi-
nent Jews, he campaigned
vigorously to end religious
restrictions for holding pub-
lic office in Pennsylvania.
The silver medal is priced
at $32, the bronze at $12.50.
