Rev. Arnold T. Olson of Min-
neapolis, a national leader in
the Evangelical Church in
the U.S. and an acknowledged
authority on Israel, declared
that "the government of Is-
rael is strongly committed to
the 'safeguarding of the prin-
ciple of religious liberty and
freedom of conscience for all
legitimate church agencies
in Israel."
Dr. Olson expressed this in
a statement following a meet-
ing with Israeli Ambassador
Simha Dinitz to discuss "the
findings" of his visit to Israel
April 18-25 where he met
with 21 political and religious
leaders including the minis-
ters of justice and religious
affairs, the attorney general,
the archbishop of Jerusalem
and missionaries.
The visit, his sixth, was
initiated, he said, after con-
sultation with officials of the

Lookout Tower Roof
Given to Hebrew U.

JERUSALEM — A roof
with a history was donated
to the Hebrew University by
a 92-year-old Yemenite, Sha-
lo:n Nadav, of Neveh Sha'-
anan, Tel Aviv, in a recent
ceremony held at the office
of University Vice President
Bernard Cherrick.
The profits from the roof
and an adjoining hall will go
to the Fund for Yeshiva and
University Students of the
Yemenite community, under
the auspices of the commun-
ity itself and Friends of the
Hebrew University.
Nadav recalled the history
of the roof. "During the tur-
bulent days of August 1929,
my roof, 36 Lavendah St.,
the highest in Neveh Sha'-
anan, served as a lookout
tower and a bastion against
Arab attacks. Fifteen persons
were arrested, accused of
possession of arms and am-
munition. All were acquitted,
excep' myself. The court
claimer : that the arms had
been hidden in my attic. I
was asked to choose between
a 40-pound fine and a three-
month term in jail. I paid
and was let free."

OBITUARIES

Dr. Olson, president of the
Evangelical Free Church of
America which has approxi-
mately 300,000 members, and
vice-president of the World
Bible Society, said the min-
ister of justice assured him
that "there are no plans to
amend the Law of Return
which would bar Jews who
converted to Christianity
from settling in Israel and
that the Declaration of the
State of Israel of May 14,
1948 includes the guarantee
of religious freedom for all."
