Golda Meld Trial Defendant Happy Birthda Pleads Guilty NY Urged to Provide 8—Friday, May 4, 1973 More Free Textbooks TEL AVIV (JTA) Yehez- kel Cohen, one of the third group of defendants on trial in Haifa for membership in a Syrian-directed Arab-Jew- ish spy ring, changed his plea from not guilty to guilty. His Jewish' co-defendant, David Kupfer, and two of the Arab defendants pleaded guilty after the court drop- ped the major charge against them — aiding the enemy in its war on Israel. The four remaining defendants, all Arabs, are standing by their not-guilty pleas. 12 young people were ar- rested April 25 in an un- authorized demonstration by several dozen members of lestist groups near the Haifa district court. NEW YORK (JTA) — A statewide campaign has been launched in New York by the commission on legisla- tion and civic action of Agu- dath Israel of America for the passage of a bill to pro- vide free textbooks from the state government for yashi- vet and all nonpublic schools from kindergarten through the 6th grade. Rabbi Moshe Sherer, exec- utive president of the organi- zation recalled the passage of legislation providing text- books to nonpublic schools from the 7th through the 12th grades and that after this law was contested in the courts, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld its constitution- ality. She said that the day would arrive "once the option of war is eliminated and the realization that Israel is home for good is accepted." We call upon them to join us as equals at the negotiating table, the only place where true reconcilia- tion is ever possible."
