WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Leonard Garment, Brooklyn-
born Jewish lawyer, has
been entrusted with the awe-
some responsibility of repre-
senting the White House in
all aspects of the Watergate
case, President Nixon an-
nounced Monday.
Garment, who has been a
special consultant to the
President regarding minori-
ties and civil rights for al-
most four years, undertook
his additional duties imme-
diately after meeting with
Nixon at Camp David Mon-
day.
The President said that
Garment will represent the
White House "in all matters
relal-'-q to the Watergate in-
ves ion and will report
direc—y to me."
White House press secre-
tary Ronald Ziegler reported
Garmen's appointment and
announced that Elliot Rich-
ardson has been named at-
torney general, succeeding
Richard Kleindienst.
The latter resigned abrupt-
ly together with top White
House aides H. R. Haldeman
and John Ehrlichman and
White House Counsel John
Dean. Garment was given
the title of acting White
House counsel succeeding
Dean.

and Rep. Lester Wolff (D.,

ceived an apology from
Kleindienst at a meeting ar-

Wolff later said that Klein-

the incident, and it was con-

Allon Dedicates Athletes' Grove
JERUSALEM — Deputy
Premier Yigal Allon told be-
reaved families at a com-
memorative tree- planting
ceremony for the slain 11
Israeli Olympians in the
Jerusalem Peace Forest, that
the Munich tragedy symbol-
izes the hopelessness of Arab
terrorists who stoop to the
lowliest of means.
"Tolerance toward terror-
ists is diminishing," he add-
ed, "and the tragedies of
Munich and Khartoum have
proved to the world that who-
ever ignores this menace is
also liable to become its
victim."
Allon praised the Jewish
National Fund and the Olym-
pics Committee of Israel for
planting the "Grove of the
Eleven" on Jerusalem's Hills
overlooking the Old City, as
well as for planning the
Olympic Martyrs Forest to
rise in the Modi'im Hills.
Contributions reached the
fund from 17 countries spe-
cifying that these go toward
a forest memorial. Israeli
school children alone contri-
buted IL85,000 ($21,250).
