Israeli Citizen May Delete Jewish
Nationality From ID Card, Court Rules
JERUSALEM (JTA)—The
Supreme Court ruled Monday
for The first time that an Is-
raeli citizen may delete Jew-
ish nationality from his iden-
tity card.
The ruling, by a three-man
bench, culminated a 17-year
legal battle during which Yes-
haya Schick, secretary of a
kibutz youth village, sought to
erase his Jewish nationality
on grounds that he is "cos-
mopolitan."
A district court had ruled
previously that while Schick
could refuse to be classified
as Jewish by religion he
could not deny his Jewish-
ness under the nationality
law. The Supreme Court held,
however, that there was no
distinction.

Justice Zvi Berinson and con-
curred in by the other two
justices, stated that both re-
ligion and nationality "are

faith and personal philoso-
phy"
The ruling is expected to
reopen a bitter controversy
that died down after the Sha-
lit case was resolved by the
Supreme Court. In the Shalit
case, the court allowed chil-
dren born of a Jewish father
and a non-Jewish mother to
be registered as Jewish by
nationality.
Interior Ministry officials
told the Jewish Telegraphic
Agency that they were study-
ing the ruling and would is-
sue a formal reaction later
on. Other Israelis are now
expected to apply for deletion
of nationality in the wake of
the Schick case decision.

Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith and Jewish Labor
- Committee calling on the
board to reverse a finding by
a snecial hearing officer that
Fuentes was "at the present

Yugoslavia Invites
Israeli Thespians
TEL AVIV (JTA) — An
Israeli theatrical delegation
has been invited to attend
the Congress of the Inter-
national Theater Institute in
Moscow next month.
The invitees include Yeho-
shua Veinberg and Yaacov
Yasur, directors of the Tel
Aviv and Haifa Chamber
Theaters; stage designer Ar-
non Adar; and Amnon Mae-
skin, an actor.
Yaacob Agmon, an Israeli
producer and his wife, Gila
Al.- nor, a stage and film
st have also been invited
to attend the congress on a
personal basis.
An Israeli theater critic
whose invitation to attend
a meeting of the World Exec-
utive of the Theater Critics
Association in Novisad, Yu-
goslavia, was rescinded by
the meeting's organizers, has
been re-invited.
The new invitation was ex-
tended to Mendel Kohansky
who had been told earlier
that his visit to Yugoslavia
at this time would be inop-
portune.
The reversal by the Yugo-
slays was apparently in re-
sponse to protests raised by
the Paris headquarters of
the Critics Association.

thing you get is people.
Their business is to get your car clean.

isn't. That's why they take the extra time to get
the vacuum into the corners, and give every
car a lot more than a quick glance when it
comes off the line.
So give us a try. We have the soap and
water. And the fancy machinery. And the
people. Now, bring us your car. It doesn't even
