. . . First meeting attendees
six months ago were Manny,
Al, Lou Levitan, Rabbi Irwin
Groner, Al Butts and Dick
Richards of New Detroit,
Inc., by which the group is
being sanctioned . . . Pur-
pose of the organization is
to join together folks in the

groups serving deprived and
minority youth . . . Since
that initial meeting, SOCK

strides and looms to become
an important cog in the
humanitarian workings of
our citizenry.

apartment and saw 5-year-
old David Payne walking
with his parents, Sheryl and
Clyde Payne .. . They went
inside and he stayed out to
play . . . Suddenly, Ruth
heard a squeaky voice yell-
ing "Help!" . . . and called
George, in his undershirt, to
put on a coat and see if any-
thing was wrong . . . He
went out and through the
iron bars saw a hand stick- Val
ing up from the water . . .
George, whose emphysema
has taken a lot out of him,
found sudden miraculous
powers as he leaped over,
grabbed little David by the
hand and hair, and pulled
him to safety . . . George
then put the youngster on
the other side, but was lock-
ed in himself and had to wait vov
to be let out . . . "If some-
one offered me $10,000," says
George, "I couldn't jump
over that fence!"
GIVE A BIG HAND to the
fine Ladies of Oak Park
Masonic Lodge, whose every
effort is to help their Mason
hubbies . . . and work with
Rabbi Solomon Gruskin in
assisting local indigent men-
tal patients . . . All monies
raised by them through
various affairs, and the de-
licious dinners served for
their men folks at the Ma-
sonic Temple in Berkley, go
into the fund . . . Organized
three years ago with 18 gals,
the lassies now number 47,
with Millie Bell, president

kin at Labor Zionist Insti-
tute saw the girls providing
transportation for 220 pa-
tients . . . by cab, by bus
and personally picking them
up.
IT'S AUCTION TIME

SCOTT'S KORNER . . .
"My boyfriend, Mitchell
Starr, and I ran into each
other on our bikes . . . The
Oak Park Police took me to
emergency at Providence
Hospital and I want to thank
them for being so very help-
ful . . . Only one thing,
though . . . they forgot to
give me back one of my gym
shoes!"
AL DUBIN of Luster
Cleaners, had a sore throat
after picking two long shots
for the daily double at Hazel
Park . . . to the lovely tune
of $2,560 . . . He ran down
to collect his loot on numbers
five and nine, practically
kissing the tickets with ex-
citement . . . But it wasn't
Al's day to get rich quick
. . . as an objection was
raised and number nine dis-
qualified . . . Al tore up the
tickets and went home mad
. . . because he had gotten
a sore throat from hollering
for nothing!

TO MOTHERS DAY

In the midst of the cleaning and ironing and sewing,

Is a maid that you don' tknow is coming or going.

Throughout your whole day is a glow you can't share

Just because, when day's over, you know she'll be there.

With a smile, a kind word, a meal and some news

There's a How did it go, bon?'' and comfortable shoes.

Oh, there might be a problem, or small need to scold

But most of the crisis are already old.

She's been at it for years; yes, this maid is a pro

Now it's your time to thank her, to let feelings show.

We know it's not easy, awarding this winner
