A joint Bar Mitzva ceremony for 25 immigrant children representing various
countries was held recently at the remains of the ancient synagogue on Masada, at the
initiative of the department of supplying religious needs of the Beersheba Workers'
Council. The immigrant children, mostly from Beersheba and small towns in the
vicinity were taken by special buses to Masada. They approached the mountain from
the western side, using the Roman rampart. Members of the Beersheba Workers'
Council presented the immigrant children with a gift-a new school uniform, a talit,
telitin and a Bible. The ceremony was attended by the children's parents and school.
mates. A pupils' orchestra played, and the solemn ceremony was followed by a party.
Twenty-five children were chosen to personify the 25 years of existence of the state.

Are Arabs Losing
S. Africa Favor?

Newsweek believes "the
all-out Arab campaign to
persuade African nations to
break with Israel is falter-
ing"
.
Writing on "The Arabs'
Uneasy Allies," Newsweek
states: "The murder of three
Western diplomats in `he
Sudan shocked African :-
ers, already leery of involve-
ment in the Mideast. Now
President Mobutu Sese Seko
of Zaire (the old Belgian
Congo), who had been lean-
ing toward the Arab view,
may have been lost as an
ally. His pro-Arab feelings
cooled noticeably after No-
hammed Heikal, editor of
the semiofficial Cairo paper
Al Ahram, referred to Mo-
butu as one of 'the ten
richest men in the world,'
an obvious suggestion that
the Zaire president had
profited in office."

Don't worry about the
things you can't change or
influence.
