When he decides to declare himself a Jew he risks any further advancement in his career. His desire to live as a Jew becomes an all encompassing need. He knows that fulfillment may be months, even years away. Maybe never. But he has made a commitment to himself and to his heritage. He cannot turn back. He comes to Israel with hope, determined to build a new life. We must see that he has the opportunity to adapt his old skills to new demands, that his children receive a proper edu- cation, that he has a decent place to live.
